Job Description The Manager for Unintentional Injury Prevention Initiatives will lead community‑based injury prevention and traffic safety programs within the Patrick M. Magoon Institute for Healthy Communities. The Unintentional Injury Prevention team works to reduce preventable injuries among children, adolescents and families through education, outreach, community partnerships, safety programming and evidence‑informed prevention strategies. The team’s work includes child passenger safety, teen driver safety, ThinkFirst, Click It or Ticket, and other initiatives focused on reducing injury risk and promoting safety across the communities Lurie Children’s serves. Key Responsibilities Implement, manage and continuously improve community‑level traffic safety programs, including scheduling, organizing and leading Child Passenger Safety Certification Courses. Provide continuing education and technical assistance for Child Passenger Safety Technicians. Coordinate program activities and community outreach; support evaluation, reporting and quality improvement efforts. Develop, edit and review program materials, publications, website content and social media related to injury prevention and traffic safety programming. Provide managerial leadership in fostering collaborative relationships with internal and external partners, including community leaders, healthcare professionals, researchers and public health practitioners. Oversee the planning, development, implementation and evaluation of a portfolio of community health and engagement initiatives, programs and events within the Magoon Institute. Guide program staff acting as contacts and liaisons for Lurie Children’s with community partners, residents and marginalized populations across Chicago neighborhoods. Strategically cultivate and strengthen relationships with community‑based organizations, educational institutions, faith‑based groups, businesses and service providers. Lead and oversee program operations, logistics, financial stewardship, budget projections, expenditure tracking and resource allocation. Support administrative tasks such as scheduling meetings, booking conference rooms, making copies and preparing meeting supplies. Develop and implement communications, marketing and social media strategies to raise awareness and promote engagement for community health initiatives. Lead program evaluation and quality improvement efforts, including designing data collection mechanisms, analyzing outcomes and synthesizing findings. Facilitate connections between Lurie Children’s healthcare providers and community partners to enhance access to health education, resources and services. Manage the development of grant and philanthropic applications and sponsor/donor reporting. Conduct personnel management responsibilities: supervise staff, oversee performance, conduct hiring, separations, promotions and performance evaluations, and provide mentorship. Represent Lurie Children’s and the Magoon Institute on community and city‑wide coalitions, advocating for policies that promote health equity and justice. Lead regular check‑ins and meetings with leadership, managers, staff and collaborators, providing updates and fostering cross‑functional collaboration. Proactively seek, identify and create opportunities for innovation, collaboration and partnership and stay abreast of emerging trends and evidence‑based interventions. Advocate for policies and resources that promote health equity and address social determinants of health at local, regional and national levels. Perform additional duties as assigned. Qualifications Bachelor’s degree in a related field required; Master’s degree preferred. Minimum of 5 years of experience in community health programming or engagement, education, healthcare/public health, administration or related field required; experience with personnel and/or progressive project management preferred. Experience in a healthcare setting also preferred. Strong leadership and team management abilities with a focus on fostering a positive work environment. Excellent project management experience and organizational skills required. Flexibility to work evenings and weekends, and travel throughout Chicago likely. Excellent interpersonal, verbal and written communication, problem‑solving, organizational and time‑management skills. Expert proficiency in Microsoft 365 software required. Experience with database management, basic data analytics, financial software and survey tools preferred. Demonstrated ability to work on complex issues, integrate multifaceted initiatives and manage multiple projects. Ability to collaborate with individuals from different backgrounds and disciplines and build relationships across all levels of the organization. Ability to take initiative, work independently and be self‑directed. Education & Experience Bachelor’s degree required; Master’s degree preferred. A combination of education and/or experience may be considered in lieu of the degree when the experience is directly related to the duties of the job. Pay Range $70,720.00–$115,627.20 per year. This range reflects minimum and maximum targets for the position and is regularly reviewed to remain aligned with market conditions.
