Senior Truck Underwriter (Non-Fleet)

IAT Insurance Group has an immediate opening for a senior underwriter within the Commercial Truck team to support our non‑fleet segment (10 or fewer power units). The role requires a competitive drive, at least five years of for‑hire motor carrier multi‑line underwriting experience, and a strong foundation in risk assessment and agency marketing. The position works a hybrid schedule out of Scottsdale, Arizona, with office days Monday‑Wednesday and optional remote Thursday‑Friday; occasional travel is required. Responsibilities Evaluate, assess, price, and recommend handling of accounts beyond the agent’s granted authority and, if necessary, present the account in collaboration to obtain for a specific account. Manage, evaluate, analyze, and assess a book of new and renewal business in a fast‑paced environment, making recommendations as to pricing, acceptability, coverage considerations, cancellations, non‑renewals, etc., to maximize profitability. Interpret, trend, and develop loss information from prior carriers, analyze financial information, and prepare governmental and industry reports specifically for each account. Travel as needed to work with assigned agents to evaluate submission flow, assess account acceptability, and assure overall profitability of each assigned agent or wholesaler. Call, correspond, and meet with assigned agency partners to maintain open communication for holistic agency management. Provide outstanding customer service. Build effective working relationships with assigned agency personnel and internal company staff. Drive new business opportunities through effective marketing to assigned agents. Effectively communicate with assigned agents the appropriate level of information to ensure understanding of company direction. Perform other tasks as needed. Qualifications Must Have: Bachelor’s degree and at least five years of experience in commercial insurance (equivalent to nine years of relevant experience). Experience with marketing and managing agents in a given territory. Knowledge of the transportation/Class 8 trucking insurance industry. Ability to creatively utilize coverage features, deductibles, or reinsurance on individual risks to achieve company objectives. Strong math aptitude, excellent verbal and written communication, interpersonal, and negotiating skills. Knowledge of various computer programs, internet‑based programs, PC literacy, and working with spreadsheets. Authorized to work in the United States and not requiring VISA sponsorship now or in the future. Preferred to Have: CPCU, ARM, or AU industry designations. INS21, 22, and 23 or equivalent.
