This position serves as a qualified Hydrovac Operator or CDL Driver (Side Dumps and other CDL-required vehicles) and supports a wide variety of tasks within our daily operations. Responsibilities vary significantly from day to day due to the diverse nature of the role.
Compensation will vary based on the project, location, and the candidate's experience and will be determined by the hiring supervisor at the time of hire.
Essential Job Functions
- Work safely in potentially hazardous environments.
- Operate high-pressure power washing equipment.
- Offer labor support to crews when equipment operating is not the primary task at hand.
- Lift and carry heavy objects weighing up to 50 pounds.
- Proficiently use hand and power tools.
- General construction and excavation skills.
- Shows competency and ability to operate various pieces of heavy equipment and or the specific equipment the individual is being hired to operate.
Equipment Operation May Include:
- Earthmoving equipment:
- Skid steers
- Compaction equipment
- Loaders
- Forklifts and powered industrial trucks
- Aerial lifts and work platforms
- Hydrovacs
- CDL-required transport vehicles (Side Dumps, Dump Trucks, etc.)
- Specialized equipment
Responsibilities:
- Perform routine inspections and general maintenance on assigned equipment.
- Read and comprehend project plans and documents.
- Lay out excavation and construction zones.
- Participate in daily Job Safety Analysis (JSA) meetings.
- Complete daily equipment and vehicle inspections.
- Safely enter and exit elevated equipment.
- Assist with daily inspections of safety equipment.
In addition to the responsibilities listed above, Operator/CDL Driver II candidates should demonstrate:
- Advanced competency operating heavy equipment, including:
- Trackhoes
- Dozers
- Motor graders
- Scrapers
- Other specialized equipment
- Ability to independently operate all Hydrovac functions.
- Ability to perform basic maintenance on assigned equipment.
- Ability to lead a crew safely and effectively in the absence of a direct supervisor.
- Ability to mentor and train operators on advanced equipment operation.
- Ability to operate lowboy trailers, gooseneck trailers, and side dumps.
- Consistent demonstration of safety-conscious decision-making.
- Exceptional professionalism when interacting with customers and coworkers.
- Ability to perform DOT Operator Qualification (OQ) tasks and successfully complete DOT OQ testing requirements.
Supervisory Responsibility
This position is not a supervisory role but will remain accountable to help ensure all co-workers are working in a manner that is conducive to the safety of everyone around. This position will report directly to their respective supervisor.
Working Conditions
This position will be faced with varying working conditions. Inclement and/or extreme weather may be a factor as well as other unforeseen conditions. The potential for long hours and varying shifts may also exist.
Qualifications
- Must pass a pre-employment drug and alcohol screening.
- Must report to work promptly, regularly, and on time.
- Able to follow instruction and carry out duties while unsupervised.
- Proficiency with tools and equipment used in the field.
- Ability to work effectively with others while maintaining a positive attitude and strong work ethic.
- Strong communication skills and the ability to openly discuss ideas and concerns.
- Valid driver's license required.
Physical Requirements
- Ability to lift up to 50 pounds frequently and up to 100 pounds regularly. Heavier loads may be lifted in team situations using proper lifting techniques.
- Ability to move quickly and safely across construction sites, including uneven or unstable terrain.
- Ability to stand, bend, crawl, stretch, kneel, squat, and lie down as necessary to perform fieldwork and equipment maintenance.
- Manual dexterity sufficient to perform detailed tasks on a regular basis.
- Visual acuity necessary to safely complete detailed work assignments.
