No exceptions. 90027 zip code Compensation: 20-23/hr + Benefits Position Overview The Release of Information (ROI) Specialist I within the VitalChart department of VRC Companies, LLC (“VRC”) is responsible for processing all assigned requests for medical records efficiently and accurately, ensuring the highest quality service to healthcare clients. The role safeguards patient privacy, complying with all relevant policies, federal, and state laws such as HIPAA. The specialist must maintain high productivity levels, communicate effectively with team members and clients, and uphold the organization's professional image. Key Responsibilities / Essential Functions Process Release of Information requests, primarily Continuing Care and Determination Services, with cross-training on other types as needed. Access and handle medical records securely according to client procedures. Complete requests promptly, prioritizing based on deadlines and service agreements. Validate requests and patient authorizations for compliance with HIPAA and other regulations. Correctly classify request types and log all requests into ROI software. Retrieve and upload medical records from electronic or physical sources. Perform quality checks to ensure accuracy and confidentiality. Manage invoicing and billing accurately. Release records to authorized entities and reject non-compliant requests. Return physical records to proper storage locations. Document all request-related communications and exceptions thoroughly. Alert supervisors to suspicious requests, breaches, or delays. Respond to requestor inquiries professionally and efficiently. Maintain secure storage of records and supplies. Support additional request types or facilities as needed and adapt to changing assignments. Follow all organizational and legal policies, including confidentiality and security standards. Complete required training and participate in ongoing education. Create invoices and update client information as needed. Perform other duties as assigned. Minimum Requirements High School Diploma or GED required; degree preferred. Experience with ROI fulfillment and healthcare records management. Strong attention to detail and organizational skills. Ability to meet deadlines and prioritize tasks. Excellent communication and documentation skills. Knowledge of HIPAA and medical record systems. Proficiency with EHR/EMR platforms, Windows, and Microsoft Office. Experience operating office equipment such as printers, scanners, and fax machines. Self-motivated, focused, and able to work independently. Fluent in English; bilingual skills are a plus. Working Conditions Ability to work 8 hours at a computer, withstanding deadlines and environment pressures. Physical ability to stand, walk, sit, and lift up to 20 pounds as needed. Good eyesight, hearing, and manual dexterity for daily tasks. Professional demeanor when dealing with clients and colleagues. Must be adaptable to on-site or remote work, with physical presence required unless remote. Potential travel to healthcare facilities if assigned to on-site roles.
