Core Responsibilities and Duties
- Portioning and Trimming: Cutting steaks, chops, roasts, and ground meat to exact weights, dimensions, and fat standards.
- Merchandising and Display: Packaging, labeling, pricing, and arranging attractive cases to maximize freshness and sales.
- Customer Service: Advising shoppers on proper cuts, cooking methods, portion sizes, and taking custom orders.
- Greeting customers, taking orders, offering samples, and providing product recommendations.
- Food Preparation: Slicing deli meats and cheeses, assembling sandwiches, preparing party trays, and managing hot foods like rotisserie chicken.
- Merchandising: Stocking display cases, rotating products for freshness, and updating price tags.
- Inventory Management: Receiving deliveries, checking in orders, and managing inventory levels.
Required Skills and Qualifications
- Customer Service Focus: Strong communication skills and a polite demeanor.
- Technical Skills: Ability to operate deli machinery (slicers, scales, ovens) and basic math for weighing/pricing items.
- Physical Stamina: Ability to stand, walk, bend, and lift up to 50 lbs for long periods.
- Food Safety Knowledge: Understanding of health department guidelines (food handler’s permit required)
- Flexibility: Willingness to work in a fast-paced environment and work varied shifts, including weekends
- Food Safety and Sanitation: Maintaining clean workstations, handling tools safely, adhering to health regulations (such as HACCP standards)
