Chief Estimator

We are seeking an experienced Chief Estimator to lead the preparation, coordination, and submission of competitive bids for a diverse range of projects. This is a senior opportunity for a commercially astute construction professional who can combine detailed technical estimating with strong leadership and stakeholder management. You will oversee the estimating function, establish effective processes, and ensure all tenders are accurate, competitive, compliant, and submitted within required deadlines.


Key responsibilities will include reviewing tender documentation, drawings, specifications, and scope requirements; developing detailed cost plans, budgets, and estimates; obtaining and evaluating subcontractor and supplier quotations; identifying commercial risks, exclusions, qualifications, and opportunities; and preparing clear tender submissions for review and approval. You will lead pre-tender meetings, coordinate with project delivery, design, procurement, and commercial teams, and provide informed advice on pricing, methodology, programme, and constructability. The role will also involve maintaining estimating systems and databases, monitoring market conditions and material costs, mentoring estimating staff, and contributing to continuous improvement across bidding and cost-planning activities.


Applicants should have substantial experience in a senior estimating role within the construction, engineering, infrastructure, or related sector, together with a strong understanding of contracts, construction methods, procurement processes, and cost control. You will need proven experience managing complex tenders from initial review through to submission and handover, as well as the ability to interpret technical information and produce accurate, commercially sound estimates. Strong negotiation, analytical, organisational, and communication skills are essential. Proficiency with estimating software, spreadsheets, and relevant project-management tools is expected. A relevant degree, diploma, trade qualification, or professional accreditation will be highly regarded. The successful candidate will be proactive, detail-focused, and confident leading teams while building effective relationships with clients, consultants, subcontractors, and internal stakeholders.
