Forklift Operator

The Forklift Operator safely moves and handles materials in a rugged, mostly outdoor manufacturing and yard environment. This role operates various types of forklift equipment and related machinery in both paved and unpaved areas, supporting loading, unloading, shipping, receiving, and inventory activities in a fast-paced facility.

Responsibilities

• Operate forklifts in rugged outdoor conditions, including paved and unpaved surfaces, to move and handle materials safely and efficiently.
• Operate stretch wrap machines, film roll up-enders, and extended boom arm forklift equipment in accordance with safety and operational procedures.
• Organize product in the yard following established inventory procedures to ensure accurate placement and easy retrieval.
• Safely load product onto and unload product from flatbed trucks and box trailers, ensuring secure and damage-free transport.
• Validate packing slips, ship tickets, and other delivery documentation by auditing, recording, and interpreting shipping documents, weights and measures, labels, and production schedules.
• Perform materials handling tasks such as picking, loading, and supporting shipping and receiving operations as required.
• Assist with pallet restacks, including cutting and dumping product, lifting bags of product, restacking items on pallets, and rewrapping pallets for stability.
• Use boom lift equipment as needed to support material handling and yard operations, following all safety guidelines.
• Maintain a clean, organized, and safe work area, promptly reporting any equipment or safety issues.
• Carry out other duties or responsibilities related to the nature of the job as assigned on a temporary or permanent basis.

Essential Skills

• Proven ability to operate forklifts safely in rugged outdoor environments, including both paved and unpaved surfaces.
• Experience working in a fast-paced manufacturing or yard environment, including covered and uncovered work areas.
• Hands-on experience with materials handling, including picking, loading, shipping, and receiving tasks.
• Ability to operate stretch wrap machines, film roll up-enders, and extended boom arm forklift equipment.
• Capability to safely load and unload product from flatbed trucks and box trailers.
• Strong attention to detail when validating packing slips, ship tickets, and other delivery documentation.
• Ability to audit, record, and interpret shipping documentation, weights and measures, labels, and production schedules accurately.
• Physical ability to lift bags of product, restack pallets, and perform repetitive material handling tasks.
• Commitment to following safety procedures and maintaining a safe work environment.

Additional Skills & Qualifications

• Experience organizing product in a yard or warehouse setting according to inventory procedures.
• Familiarity with boom lift operation in a manufacturing or yard environment.
• Ability to work effectively in both outdoor and indoor conditions, including exposure to varying weather.
• Willingness to perform additional duties as needed to support production and logistics operations.

Work Environment

This role is based primarily in a mostly outdoor manufacturing and yard environment that includes both paved and unpaved surfaces. You work Monday through Friday, typically from 5:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m., with some overtime on Saturdays as needed. Outside of peak season, the schedule generally runs from 6:30 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. The facility operates in both covered and uncovered areas, and you can expect a fast-paced setting with regular use of forklifts, stretch wrap machines, film roll up-enders, extended boom arm equipment, and boom lifts.

This is a Contract position based out of Pittsville, MD.

Pay and Benefits

The pay range for this position is $17.00 - $17.50/hr. Individual compensation offered for this position within this range will depend on many factors, including qualifications, skills, relevant experience, job knowledge, geographic location, internal equity, and other pertinent job-related factors.
