Normal Work Schedule: Monday - Friday 8:00am to 5:00pm
Job Summary: The Academic Advisor III provides guidance to University students on academic progress, courses, University resources, etc. Identifies courses to be completed in upcoming semesters. Explains University and College policies. Provides guidance, trains, and/or may supervise other advisors. May teach compass course as needed.
Additional Department Summary: Supports the Capstone Center for Student Success Advising unit by providing targeted academic advising and persistence support to first- and second-year students identified through the Crimson Next program. Works with students experiencing academic challenges and provides continued advising support for students transitioning beyond their first year. Provides proactive student outreach, academic and persistence planning, program coordination, collaboration with campus partners, and support of advising initiatives designed to promote student success and retention to the targeted cohort of students.
Required Minimum Qualifications: Bachelor's degree and four (4) years of academic advising experience; OR master's degree and two (2) years of academic advising experience.
Skills and Knowledge: Excellent verbal, written, interpersonal, and public speaking skills. Strong organizational, planning, project management, and event coordination abilities. Proficiency with Banner, Degree Works, Slate, Microsoft Office applications, and other similar student information systems. Strong knowledge of degree requirements, curriculum planning, degree audits, registration processes, and university academic policies. Knowledge of Academic Warning, Satisfactory Academic Progress (SAP), academic recovery processes, and persistence-related university policies and resources. Ability to support students experiencing academic difficulty, proactively identify barriers to student success, and coordinate appropriate interventions and campus referrals. Ability to analyze student success data and prepare reports supporting assessment and continuous improvement. Ability to collaborate effectively with academic colleges and university partners. Ability to work independently while managing multiple priorities and distinct student cohorts in a fast-paced environment. Demonstrated professionalism in representing the University with students, families, faculty, staff, and external partners.
Preferred Qualifications: Master’s degree in Higher Education, College Student Personnel, Counseling, Student Affairs Administration, or a related field. Experience in comprehensive or developmental academic advising. Experience supporting students on Academic Warning, SAP warning, academic recovery plans, or other persistence interventions. Experience developing and implementing student persistence, retention, or success initiatives. Experience planning and facilitating workshops, student programs, and large-scale events. Experience working with student populations through relationship-centered and holistic advising practices. Experience collaborating across multiple academic and administrative units. Experience using Banner, Degree Works, Slate, Power BI, or similar student success and reporting systems.
