Your Working Environment The Airbus Aerosystems Kinston facility specializes in the production of large, advanced composite aerostructures, building critical components for the Airbus A350 XWB, including the composite center fuselage and wing spar. Your Challenges We are seeking a detail‑oriented and highly organized aviation Quality Inspector to join the Product Inspection team. This role will be critical in monitoring full adherence to the various manufacturing and quality processes within our facility to ensure compliance with stringent quality and regulatory standards in the aviation industry. The ideal candidate will be an inspector and technical expert passionate about process confirmation, manufacturing, and operational excellence. Use predetermined methods, operations, setups, and prescribed specifications to inspect visually in‑process and completed products such as electronic units and subsystems, precision electromechanical assemblies or mechanical units, subassemblies, structural flaws, internal defects, and missing welds. Use various measuring devices. Accept, reject, or rework defective or malfunctioning units or systems. Work from blueprints, diagrams, dial indicators, preset micrometers, scales, fixtures, customer specifications, drawings or inspection instructions, and checklists. May monitor and verify quality in accordance with statistical processes or other control procedures. Perform line clearances after each lot to ensure all materials from the previous lot have been removed. Primary Responsibilities Work from drawings/CATIA, documents, process specifications, quality control requirements, software programs, and test procedures; perform any inspection of parts, subassemblies, and assemblies including processes and materials. Dimensionally inspect parts or assemblies. Initiate and document any non‑conforming materials, hardware, parts, assemblies, or portions thereof, according to specifications, processes and procedures. Inspect vendor, subcontractor or company parts and assemblies. Follow a pre‑determined sequence of own work. Prepare and maintain quality records. Support the continuous flow of products within the manufacturing process by cross‑training and assisting other employees, including cross‑training in the Assembly Technician function or functions supported. May be asked, on occasion, to complete other duties and responsibilities as required by Airbus leadership. Training and certification will be provided when required. Additional Responsibilities Other duties as assigned. Your Boarding Pass Must be willing and able to work any shift. Work Keys Assessment completion OR High School Diploma/GED. Qualifications Precision measurement tools. Blueprints/drawings interpretation. First Article Inspection required. Must be willing and able to work any shift, overtime, and from motorized elevated platforms. Work Keys Assessment completion or High School Diploma/GED. Education Associate’s degree in Aviation, Quality Assurance, or a related field preferred (not required). Bachelor’s degree in Aviation, Quality Assurance, or a related field preferred. Experience Minimum of 3 years’ experience in quality assurance, quality control, manufacturing operations, manufacturing engineering/methods, or a similar role within the aviation industry. Preferred: 5 years’ experience in the same fields. Preferred: Certifications in aircraft maintenance, aviation safety, or regulatory compliance. Travel Required: Willingness to travel up to 5% to domestic and/or international customers or suppliers. Citizenship Authorized to work in the US. Clearance None. Knowledge, Skills, and Demonstrated Capabilities Strong attention to detail with excellent organizational skills. Strong knowledge of aviation Quality Management Systems, Safety Management Systems, and FOD programs, preferably in manufacturing. Strong written and verbal communication skills for interaction with internal teams through all levels of the organization and functions. Demonstrated ability to work independently and in a collaborative team environment. High degree of flexibility and initiative. Communication Skills Effective verbal and written communication skills, specifically in English, which is required for operating in a multicultural and multifunctional environment. Technical Systems Proficiency Proficient in Manufacturing tools (MES) and quality management systems (QMS) used in manufacturing environments. Training from a vocational school or previous employer in the use of composite lay‑ups and fabrication. Preferred: Experience with aerospace‑specific tools such as SAP and MES systems. Complexity of the Role This role requires sound judgment in navigating complex regulatory requirements, quality standards, and operational constraints unique to the aerospace industry. Physical Requirements Onsite: 100% On‑site. Vision: Able to see and read computer screens, documents, reports, and engineering drawings. Hearing: Able to participate in conversations in person and via teleconference or phone and hear sounds on the production floor including safety warnings or alarms. Speaking: Able to speak in conversations and meetings, deliver information and participate in communications. Equipment Operation: Able to operate most office and personal electronic equipment and some tools including production tools such as hydraulic lifts. Carrying: Able to carry documents, tools, drawings, electronic equipment up to 30lbs (14kg). Lifting: Able to lift documents, tools, drawings, electronic equipment up to 30lbs (14kg). Pushing / Pulling: Able to push and pull small office furniture and some equipment and tools. Sitting: Able to sit for long periods of time in meetings, working on the computer. Squatting / Kneeling: Able to squat or kneel to perform inspections on lower portions of the product. Standing: Able to stand extended periods of time while performing inspections, for discussions on the production floor. Travel: Once or twice a year, able to travel independently and at short notice. Walking: Able to walk through office and production areas including uneven surfaces. PPE Required: Safety shoes, safety glasses, hearing protection, respirators/masks, and/or protective gloves as required by site and/or customer site. Not afraid of heights and can work on elevated platforms as high as 40 feet.
