Head Men's Volleyball Coach

Frederick, Maryland Frederick, MD 21701, USA Description Under the general direction of the Director of Athletics, the full-time Head Men’s Volleyball Coach will recruit and retain qualified student-athletes for the men’s volleyball program, instruct and develop student-athletes in volleyball and academics, prepare team for matches, fundraise and assist in community involvement. Additionally, the Head Coach will also support the mission and goals of Hood College. Essential Duties include the following. Other duties may be assigned. Coaching, Recruiting, and Team Administration (85%) Work with Director of Athletics on yearly recruiting goals for the program; Provide instruction on related skill development and critique, rules, technologies and strategies; Adjust gameday strategies in matches as needed; Model and instruct student-athletes in departmental, College, Conference, and NCAA policies and procedures including Hood Honor Code, Alcohol Policy, Code of Conduct, Travel Policy, Conference bylaws and proceedings, and NCAA guidelines; Organize and conduct practices during the traditional and non-traditional seasons; Develop team travel and security plans in compliance with departmental and College guidelines for safety and other requirements; Serve as the representative of the department and the College during team travel for in- and out-of-season competition. Supervise team during all travel, lead team during the event; Manage and account for budget. Submit required forms and reports to Director of Athletics and Accounting Department; Develop and implement fund-raising strategies for team; Assure currency with NCAA regulations, Conference bylaws and proceedings, and departmental policies. Participate in NCAA and Conference meetings and voting procedures as appropriate; Refer student-athletes to College resources as necessary to assist with academic, medical, and/or personal issues that may arise throughout the year; Other duties as assigned by Director of Athletics. Work with the office of Conference Events and Services (CES) on coordinating athletic rentals and reserving athletic facilities; Direct interested outside vendors towards the office of CES; Assist in identifying site supervisors for outside rentals. Education and/or Experience Minimum Requirements/Qualifications Proven successful coaching, with 2-3 years of experience preferred. Knowledge of NCAA Division III rules and regulations preferred. Valid driver’s license and good driving record. Proficient in MS Office tools (Microsoft Word, Excel, and PowerPoint), e-mail and Internet. Ability to learn new applications quickly including organization-wide information systems and department-specific software applications. Language Skills Oral communication skills to enable the incumbent to effectively present information and respond to questions from and build relationships with groups of managers, clients, customers, and the general public. Ability to read, analyze and interpret general business periodicals, professional journals, technical procedures or government regulations. Ability to write reports, business correspondence and procedures manuals. Mathematical Skills Proficient with statistical and financial concepts. Must have the ability to apply those concepts to tracking, projections, goal setting and interpreting reports. Must be able to draw conclusions from reports and make cost effective decisions regarding programs. Reasoning Ability Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a number of concrete variables in situations where only limited standardization exists. Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form. Ability to work independently and as a member of a group in developing and executing project plans. Ability to work in theoretical arena and apply logic as appropriate. Compensation This is a position with an annual starting salary range of $49,500 to $55,000 depending on circumstances including an applicant’s skills and qualifications, certain degrees and certifications, prior job experience, training, and other relevant factors. Hood College has provided a compensation range representing its good faith estimate of what the College may pay for the position at the time of posting. The College may ultimately pay more or less than the posted compensation range.
