Killeen Independent School District | Special Education
Full-Time | Exempt | Pay Grade: AP6
$78k-$108k+ depending on experience and contract length
Killeen ISD is seeking a dedicated and student-centered Speech-Language Pathologist (SLP) to join our Special Education team. In this role, you’ll help students with communication disorders access their education and reach their full academic and social potential.

What You’ll Do
As a Speech-Language Pathologist with KISD, you will:
Student Assessment & Services
- Conduct comprehensive speech-language evaluations to determine eligibility for services
- Prepare Full and Individual Evaluations (FIEs) in accordance with state and district guidelines
- Develop and implement Individualized Education Programs (IEPs) for students with communication impairments
- Provide individualized and small-group therapy aligned to student IEP goals
- Deliver evidence-based therapy services that support academic success
- Serve students in the Least Restrictive Environment (LRE)
- Monitor student progress and determine readiness for dismissal from services
Collaboration & Support
- Participate in Admission, Review, and Dismissal (ARD) Committee meetings
- Collaborate with classroom teachers to support communication development in academic settings
- Communicate effectively with families, staff, and students regarding progress and needs
- Provide professional learning to campus staff on recognizing communication impairments
- Maintain a safe, organized, and student-friendly therapy environment
Program & Compliance
- Supervise Speech-Language Pathology Assistants (SLPAs), graduate students, and interns in accordance with TDLR regulations
- Maintain required documentation, including:
- Evaluations
- Session notes
- Progress reports
- Medicaid billing documentation
- Manage referral and evaluation databases for assigned campuses
- Collect and analyze data to support IEP development and service recommendations
- Assist with selection of therapy equipment and instructional materials
- Ensure compliance with federal, state, and district policies and procedures
What You Bring
Education & Credentials
- Master’s degree in Speech-Language Pathology or Communication Sciences & Disorders
- Licensed Speech-Language Pathologist through the Texas Department of Licensing and Regulation (TDLR)
- Certificate of Clinical Competency (CCC) through ASHA (or ability to obtain)
- National Provider Identifier (NPI) number (or ability to obtain within 30 days)
Skills & Expertise
- Strong knowledge of speech-language disorders and school-based service delivery
- Familiarity with ARD/IEP processes and special education compliance
- Ability to implement evidence-based therapy practices
- Strong communication and collaboration skills
- Computer literacy and experience with digital documentation systems
Work Environment & Expectations
- District-wide travel to multiple campuses as assigned
- Occasional evening or weekend school events
- Frequent keyboarding and documentation
- Regular walking, standing, bending, and reaching
- Ability to lift instructional materials and equipment
