Hematology/Oncology Nurse Practitioner

Position Overview

We are seeking experienced Nurse Practitioners to support an inpatient hematology/oncology service in Grand Rapids, Michigan. This role focuses on providing care to medically complex adult patients in a collaborative hospital environment alongside physicians and multidisciplinary teams.

While oncology experience is preferred, strong inpatient Nurse Practitioners from hospital medicine, internal medicine, or critical care backgrounds are highly encouraged to apply.

• Perform daily inpatient rounding
• Manage admissions and discharges
• Conduct comprehensive patient assessments and physical exams
• Order and interpret laboratory tests and diagnostic imaging
• Manage acute and chronic conditions
• Monitor patient status changes and adjust care plans as needed
• Collaborate with physicians and interdisciplinary care teams

• Adult inpatient hematology and oncology patients
• High-acuity, medically complex cases
• Management of treatment-related complications and disease progression

• Active Nurse Practitioner license in Michigan
• National certification (AANP, ANCC, or equivalent)
• Minimum of 2 years of clinical experience
• Prior inpatient experience (hospitalist, internal medicine, ICU, or similar)
• DEA registration
• Current BLS certification
• Ability to independently manage patient care, including rounding, admissions, and discharges
  

• Hematology or oncology experience
• Familiarity with oncology-related complications such as neutropenia, sepsis, and treatment side effects
• Experience in oncology units or cancer-focused settings

Openings: Two positions available (day shift and night shift)

Day Shift:

• Rotating three-week schedule
• Weekly hours range from 30 to 40
• Includes weekday and weekend coverage

Night Shift:

• Three shifts per week
• Rotating weekend coverage as needed

Start Date: Late July to early August
Contract Length: 13 weeks with potential for extension

The ideal candidate will have recent inpatient experience and be comfortable managing a full patient load, including rounding, admissions, and discharges. Strong clinical judgment, adaptability, and the ability to thrive in a team-oriented environment are essential.
