Licensed Practical NurseThe job of Licensed Practical Nurse is established for the purpose of overseeing the individual health needs of students; implementing health care plans directed by physicians; providing appropriate immediate care for ill, medically fragile and/or injured students and/or staff; and identifying health problems for referral and follow up treatment.Essential duties and responsibilities generally include the following:Administers first aid, medication and specialized medical treatment for providing appropriate care for ill, medically fragile and/or injured children.Assess situations involving students' safety, abuse and other health related issues for identifying problems, referring for proper treatment and complying with legal requirements.Conducts health screenings for promoting needed treatment and complying with legal requirements.Implements school health care plans for providing appropriate care as directed by health care professional.Maintains health office for ensuring availability of items.Maintains student health records for documenting activities and complying with mandated requirements.Monitors health care plans for addressing students' health needs and implementing health care directions from parents and/or physicians.Participates in meetings, workshops and seminars for sharing information and/or improving skills/knowledge.Participates in various emergency drills for providing expertise in health related issues.Prepares written materials for documenting activities, providing written reference and/or conveying information.Reports incidents and students with contagious diseases for maintaining students personal safety, a positive learning environment and adhering to policies.Responds to emergency situations for addressing immediate health and safety concerns.Teaches students and staff in-service classes/lessons for maintaining good health, identifying and providing health care education.Knowledge and skills required include knowledge of applicable Federal, state, county and city statutes, rules, policies and procedures; knowledge of applicable grants management; knowledge of applicable Peoria Unified School District and departmental policies and procedures.Minimum qualifications include a high school diploma or GED and must possess a current LPN license, or appropriate certification. Must also have at least two years' verifiable work experience, preferably as an LPN or any equivalent combination of experience and education from which comparable knowledge, skills and abilities have been achieved.Employment information includes physical requirements such as lifting, carrying, pushing, and/or pulling; frequent stooping, kneeling, crouching, and/or crawling; and significant fine finger dexterity. The job is performed in hazardous conditions.Other requirements include possessing or obtaining an Arizona IVP Fingerprint Clearance Card, passing a background clearance check, working outside normal working hours, and maintaining a valid Arizona driver's license.
