Role Overview
The Heating, Ventilation, and Air Conditioning (HVAC) Master Mechanic will install, maintain, perform preventive maintenance and monitoring, and document work on varying and complex HVAC systems at the forty-nine (49) facilities owned and operated by Washington County Public Schools. The position is responsible for investigating and troubleshooting systems and recommending needed repairs to be completed by both in-house and contracted personnel. The successful candidate will have working knowledge and the ability to troubleshoot and repair direct digital and pneumatic automated HVAC control systems.


Minimum Requirements
High school diploma/GED.
Six (6) years' overall experience in care and maintenance of HVAC equipment.
Valid driver's license with no court ordered restrictions.
Ability to read and interpret construction plans and specifications.
Availability for emergency response and overtime when needed.
EPA Section 608 Universal Certification.
Regular and predictable attendance is an essential function of this position.

Preferred Qualifications
40-hour OSHA certification
Associate's degree or equivalent trade school certifications.
HVAC Master License for the state of Maryland.


Role Responsibilities
Perform the installation, maintenance, service and repair of HVAC systems and equipment, and provide technical support to co-workers.
Communicate daily with Mechanical Foreman concerning system HVAC issues.
Troubleshoot, repair, maintain and adjust the following (but not limited to):
Electronic, direct digital, and pneumatic controls and systems, including a working knowledge of typical operating sequences for most equipment.
Hydronic systems such as boilers, chillers, cooling towers and associated pumps, valves, 2-pipe, and 4-pipe systems etc.
Gas and oil burners and other heating equipment.
Specified ducts and pipe delivery systems for air, water, and refrigerant gas.
Heat pump and variable refrigerant flow (VRF) systems.
Geothermal systems including water source heat pumps.
All types of commercial and residential air handling equipment (single zone, multi-zone, variable air volume, direct expansion (DX), split systems, dedicated outside air systems, ductless split systems, zone dampers) including operating variable frequency drives, change out of motors, fans, coils, and compressors etc.
Ability to balance both air and hydronic systems.
Perform regular inspections and preventive maintenance and make recommendations for repair of deficiencies.
Perform related work as required.
Be familiar with composing and sending Emails and working within computerized maintenance management system (CMMS) for work order fulfillment.
Demonstrate courteous and professional demeanor to all stakeholders of Washington County Public Schools.
