Groundskeeper

Florida Institute of Technology is a growing, top-ranked university with over 2,000,000 square feet of facilities to maintain. The position of Groundskeeper is a full‑time semi‑skilled role under the administrative direction of the Grounds Supervisor and daily supervision of the Grounds Lead. The employee will perform work required for the care, maintenance and development of the lawns, landscape beds, street trees, green‑space trees, irrigation system, and general grounds of the university‑owned property. This includes picking up trash, debris and emptying out trash containers from assigned areas. The employee will also operate mowers, edgers, trimmers, pruners, blowers, chain saws and other power tools. The employee will occasionally set up chairs, tables, tents, stage for special events with potential overtime. The employee will perform other related work as required, some of which will be mechanical and some as designated essential personnel for emergency preparations and recovery. Work Hours Monday to Friday, 6:30 AM – 3:00 PM / 7:00 AM – 3:30 PM, with opportunities for occasional overtime. Responsibilities Pick up trash, debris and empty trash containers from assigned areas on a daily basis. Maintain turf and grass with power equipment such as zero‑turn radius mower, edger, trimmers, and blower. Care for and maintain landscape beds, irrigation system and general grounds (mulch, remove weeds, etc.). Safely operate University‑owned vehicles and equipment and wear proper PPE when operating equipment. Set up chairs, tables, tents, and stage for special events, including Graduation, International Fest, etc. Clean, maintain, service and make minor repairs to equipment or report issues to Supervisor. Emergency preparedness and support as directed. Additional duties as assigned.
