Job Description The technologist produces radiographs of diagnostic quality using the least amount of radiation exposure to the patient, co‑workers and themselves. Technologists provide quality patient care while adhering to the Departmental and Medical Center policies and procedures. Responsibilities Ensure the care and safety of patients undergoing treatment and use of equipment to minimize hazards of electric shock, burns, and extraneous radiation to patients. Handle equipment and films safely. Assess patient’s understanding of process and informed consent for invasive procedures. Evaluate and inform physician of changes in inpatient condition during exam. Select appropriate equipment for each procedure. Determine suitable anatomical posture and positions and shield patients accordingly. Make specialized radiographic examinations such as intravenous pyelograms, cholangiograms, bronchograms, mammograms, hysterosalpingograms, tomograms, arthrograms, myelograms, and other procedures during surgery. Program portable or stationary X‑ray machines and produce radiograms for a variety of examinations. Process X‑ray film if a darkroom technician is not available. Practice medical and surgical aseptic procedures. Assist in maintaining basic records and reports; maintain files. Use CR and PACS competently. Assist in training students and ancillary personnel. Take X‑ray, CT, US and angiogram calls according to monthly schedule after regular hours. Interact professionally with patients/families. Complete all work before clocking out, including checks with nurse stations. Know local fire and safety regulations. Familiar with hospital policies and functions of other departments. Compile and maintain quality assurance information for mammography in accordance with ACR, state and federal regulations. Demonstrate knowledge and skills to provide care based on physical, psychosocial, educational, safety criteria for all age groups. Modify job duties and communicate with customers in an appropriate manner. Assess patient pain and involve patient in pain management using age‑appropriate interventions. Maintain dress code standards. Complete annual educational requirements and maintain regulatory requirements. Maintain patient confidentiality at all times. Report to work on time, complete work within designated time. Maintain assigned duties and maintain PAR levels. Use identification while on duty and use computerized punch‑in system correctly. Complete in‑services and return in a timely fashion. Attend annual reviews, departmental in‑services and staff meetings. Represent the organization positively and professionally. Participate in performance improvement and CQI activities. Comply with organizational policies regarding ethical business practices. Communicate mission, ethics and goals of the hospital and department focus. Excellent communication skills. Knowledge to complete all standard X‑ray procedures/exams. Good understanding of ALARA principles. Ability to work in a fast‑paced / busy atmosphere. Operate common X‑ray equipment including portable, R&F rooms, C‑arms. Offer compassionate care to all age groups. Complete specialty exams without assistance. Proficient in PACS. Basic computer skills. Flex work schedule as required. Willingly take calls as required. Qualifications Graduate of a 2‑year JRCERT program in Radiologic Technology; Associate’s or Bachelor’s degree preferred. Current Louisiana State licensure. Current ARRT licensure in Diagnostic Radiology. BSL to be completed within 30 days of hire.
