Warehouse Associate - Wire Room
$20 - $25 per hourShepherd Electric Company
- # Warehouse Associate - Wire RoomApply: SES Richmond, VA: Full time: Posted 7 Days Ago: R263660**About Shepherd Electric Supply**Since 1892, Shepherd Electric Supply has been the first call when complex, time-critical electrical challenges need to be solved and reliability truly matters. We move materials accurately and on time so contractors stay on schedule, projects stay on track, and customers never have to wonder if we’ll come through. Our success comes from people who take pride in doing things the right way — safely, accurately, and with care for teammates and customers alike. If you want to do work that matters at a company that notices, this is the place. **Why This Role Matters**The Wire Room is where product integrity begins. When wire and cable orders are cut accurately, pulled cleanly, and packed right the first time, contractors get exactly what they need — no delays, no rework, no errors in the field. This role sits at a critical point in the fulfillment chain. What you do here directly affects whether customers can trust us on their next call. Precision is not a preference — it is the standard. **How This Role Connects to Our Compass****We Keep Our Promises:**Your cuts are right the first time. Orders leave your station complete and accurate. When something is off, you catch it before it ships — not after. Your teammates and customers can count on your work without having to check behind you.**We Stay Hungry:**You ask why a process works a certain way. You notice when something could be faster, safer, or more accurate. You bring ideas forward and stay curious about the product you’re handling.**We Grow Together:**You communicate early when issues arise. You support cross-training and make the whole wire room stronger. When volume spikes, you step in without being asked.**We Own It:**You don’t wait for a Manager to notice a problem. You own your station, your accuracy, and your safety. No excuses, no shortcuts, no leaving errors for the next shift.**We Go Above & Beyond:**You see the full picture — the contractor on-site depending on what you packed. You take pride in doing it right, especially when no one is watching. **Key Outcomes***Organized by what matters, not just what you do.***Order Accuracy & Quality*** Cut, pull, inspect, and pack wire and cable orders accurately so nothing gets reworked or returned* Operate Wemco or Reel-o-matic wire machines correctly and safely* Pull and load conduit wire with care to prevent damage* Verify order details before release — catch errors here, not at the customer site**Receiving & Inventory Control*** Support inbound receiving and ensure product is processed accurately* Maintain proper inventory management and stock rotation* Process merchandise returns correctly and promptly**Safety & Standards*** Follow all safety guidelines and proper lifting techniques — no exceptions, no shortcuts* Maintain a clean, organized work area that supports safe, efficient operation**Communication & Flexibility*** Flag issues early — accuracy problems, safety concerns, supply shortages — before they compound* Complete other duties as assigned by warehouse leadership* Support cross-training efforts to increase team flexibility **What Success Looks Like**After 90 days, you and your Manager should both be able to point to these markers:* Wire and cable orders are cut and packed accurately — rework and returns tied to wire room errors are rare* Machines are operated safely and maintained properly* Inventory is received, rotated, and processed without repeated corrections* Safety practices are second nature — consistent during both steady and high-volume periods* Your teammates and Managers trust that your station runs without needing to be watched **Who Thrives Here**This role is a strong fit if:* You take pride in precision work where the details matter* You’d rather flag a problem early than hope it works out* You’re steady under pressure and don’t need someone watching to do things correctly* You care about the people downstream who depend on your work* You’re willing to learn, ask questions, and improve how things get done **Qualifications & Requirements*** High school diploma or equivalent required* 3+ years of warehousing experience preferred (attitude and reliability matter more)* Prior experience in wire cutting highly preferred* Familiarity with Wemco or Reel-o-matic wire machines advantageous* Forklift certification a plus* Valid driver’s license required* Ability to lift up to 50 lbs. and push up to 100 lbs. using proper technique* Dependable attendance and a team-oriented mindset* Ability to successfully complete pre-employment screening requirements **Why Join Shepherd Electric Supply*** Competitive hourly pay with opportunity for growth* Medical, dental, and life insurance* Prescription drug coverage* Paid vacation and personal time* 401(k) with employer match* Stable organization with over 130 years of industry leadership* A culture where reliability is noticed, ownership is rewarded, and people come first**Work Shift and****Hours****:** Monday - Friday, 10:00am - 7:00pm **Compensation Details:**The expected pay rate for this position is starting at $20.00 - $25.00 per hour depending on experience.**Additional Information:*** Steel toed boots required. **Equal Opportunity Employer**Shepherd Electric Supply is an equal opportunity employer. We are committed to creating a diverse and inclusive workplace and do not discriminate based on race, color, religion, national origin, gender, gender identity, sexual orientation, age, disability, veteran status, or any other legally protected status.
