Retail Group Job Description: The Lead Field Merchandiser serves as the on-site leader of the Field Merchandising team and is responsible for the safe, accurate, efficient, and timely execution of store resets, reflows, cooler resets and refreshes, merchandising projects, and store organization initiatives across TA locations. This position leads the Field Merchandising team while working alongside team members to physically complete the project. The Lead Field Merchandiser is responsible for understanding the approved store layout and project scope, organizing the work, assigning responsibilities, monitoring progress, resolving field execution issues, maintaining quality standards, and ensuring the location is completed according to approved plans, planograms, merchandising standards, and BP/TA safety requirements. The Lead Field Merchandiser also serves as the primary on-site point of contact between the Field Merchandising team, store management, and Field Merchandising leadership throughout the project. This is a highly physical, hands-on leadership role requiring frequent travel, strong organizational skills, sound judgment, and the ability to lead a team in a fast-moving retail environment. - Review the project scope, store layout, planograms, timelines, and priorities before work begins.
- Establish a clear work plan for each day and communicate expectations to the team.
- Assign team members to specific sections, departments, coolers, fixtures, or other project responsibilities based on project needs.
- Coordinate the sequence of work to improve productivity while minimizing disruption to store operations and customers.
- Monitor team progress throughout the day and adjust assignments when necessary to keep the project on schedule.
- Work alongside the team and actively participate in resets, fixture work, merchandising, cooler resets, product movement, and other physical activities.
- Set the standard for work ethic, professionalism, urgency, teamwork, safety, and quality.
- Coach Field Merchandisers on proper execution techniques, merchandising standards, Planogram accuracy, and safe work practices.
- Identify performance or execution concerns and communicate them appropriately to Field Merchandising leadership.
- Lead the team's compliance with all BP and TA safety policies, procedures, and protocols.
- Conduct appropriate safety discussions before work begins and when project conditions change.
- Ensure team members use required personal protective equipment (PPE) and approved tools and equipment.
- Ensure proper lifting, material-handling, ladder, cooler, equipment, and fixture-installation procedures are followed.
- Maintain safe and organized work areas throughout the project.
- Ensure merchandise, fixtures, equipment, tools, packaging, and other materials do not create hazards for customers or store employees.
- Immediately address unsafe behavior or conditions and call out safety concerns when necessary.
- Report injuries, incidents, damaged equipment, and other safety concerns according to established procedures.
- Ensure the store is left safe, clean, and customer-ready at the end of each workday.
- Review and understand the complete project package before beginning work, including store layouts, floor plans, planograms, fixture requirements, merchandising instructions, signage requirements, and project timelines.
- Walk the location before beginning significant work to identify potential execution issues.
- Verify that required fixtures, supplies, merchandising materials, signage, and other project components are available.
- Develop an efficient sequence for completing the reset or reflow.
- Coordinate fixture movement, product staging, Planogram execution, cooler work, backroom organization, and other activities to prevent unnecessary rework.
- Track progress against the established project schedule.
- Identify barriers that could affect project completion and communicate them quickly to the appropriate leadership.
- Make appropriate field-level decisions within established guidelines while calling out changes that require approval.
- Ensure approved project scope is completed before the team leaves the location.
- Lead and participate in complete and partial store resets, reflows, remodel support, and merchandising refreshes.
- Direct the tear-down, movement, assembly, rebuilding, leveling, and positioning of retail fixtures and shelving according to approved layouts.
- Ensure shelves, peg hooks, displays, racks, endcaps, merchandising accessories, and other fixtures are properly installed.
- Coordinate the safe movement and staging of merchandise and fixtures throughout the store.
- Verify that fixtures are positioned correctly before merchandising work begins.
- Identify damaged, missing, or incorrect fixtures and components and determine the appropriate next steps with project leadership.
- Ensure the team accurately follows approved store layouts, floor plans, planograms, cooler layouts, and merchandising instructions .
- Verify correct fixture placement, shelf heights, product placement, facings, spacing, sequencing, and presentation.
- Conduct ongoing quality checks rather than waiting until the end of the project to identify errors.
- Correct execution issues before sections are considered complete.
- Identify conditions where the approved plan cannot be properly implemented and call out those issues rather than making unauthorized changes.
- Provide feedback to Field Merchandising leadership regarding layouts or planograms that create execution challenges in the field.
- Lead and participate in cooler resets, reflows, and merchandising refreshes .
- Coordinate product removal, staging, organization, and replacement to minimize product exposure and disruption.
- Ensure cooler shelves, product placement, facings, tags, signage, and merchandising standards match approved plans.
- Organize work to minimize the amount of time refrigerated merchandise remains outside appropriate temperature-controlled environments.
- Identify cooler fixture, shelving, signage, or merchandising issues and communicate them to the appropriate project or store leadership.
- Ensure completed coolers are organized, shopable, properly merchandised, and operationally practical for store teams.
- Lead efforts to improve backroom, storage area, cooler, and merchandising supply organization as part of reset and reflow projects.
- Establish clear organization expectations for the Field Merchandising team.
- Help identifying excess, discontinued, obsolete, damaged, misplaced, or non-Planogrammed inventory and ensure established disposition procedures are followed.
- Organize fixtures, shelving, signage, merchandising supplies, and other materials to improve store-level execution.
- Focus on creating organization systems that are practical and sustainable for the store team after the project is completed.
- Ensure backroom, storage, and cooler areas are left clean, organized, safe, and operationally functional.
- Lead and participate in the reflow, reorganization, and remerchandising of deli and sales desk areas according to approved project plans.
- Coordinate the movement and repositioning of merchandise, displays, shelving, racks, and approved fixtures.
- Help ensure revised layouts improve product visibility, customer flow, impulse merchandising, shopability, and operational efficiency.
- Coordinate work with store management and other functional partners to minimize disruption to deli, sales desk, and customer operations.
- Ensure appropriate signage, shelf tags, promotional materials, and merchandising communication are properly installed.
- Direct and participate in the removal, staging, organization, and replacement of merchandise during resets.
- Ensure merchandise is properly stocked, faced, organized, priced, and presented before sections are considered complete.
- Ensure discontinued, damaged, excess, misplaced, or non-planogrammed inventory is identified and handled according to established procedures.
- Verify shelf tags, price labels, promotional signage, displays, endcap materials, and other merchandising communication are correctly installed.
- Ensure promotional and seasonal programs included within the project scope are executed according to established standards.
- Serve as the primary Field Merchandising contact for store management during the project .
- Meet with store leadership at the beginning of the project to review the work being completed and discuss potential operational impacts.
- Maintain regular communication with store management regarding progress, issues, changes, and expected completion.
- Coordinate work to minimize unnecessary disruption to customers and store operations.
- Listen to store concerns while ensuring the team continues to implement the approved project scope.
- Clearly communicate when requested changes fall outside the approved project and require additional authorization.
- Review completed work with store leadership as appropriate before leaving the location.
- Conduct a final walkthrough of the store and all areas included within the project.
- Verify fixtures are positioned according to the approved layout.
- Verify planograms and cooler sets have been accurately implemented.
- Confirm merchandise is properly stocked, faced, priced, and presented.
- Confirm required signage and promotional materials are installed.
- Confirm backrooms, storage areas, coolers, deli areas, sales desk areas, and other areas included in the project are organized appropriately.
- Ensure unused materials, tools, packaging, fixtures, and debris are properly removed or stored.
- Identify and document outstanding issues that could not be resolved before departure.
- Ensure appropriate project completion documentation, photographs, or other required reporting is completed.
- Leave the location safe, clean, organized, operational, and customer-ready .
- Regularly lifting, carrying, pushing, and pulling merchandise, fixtures, shelving, equipment, and supplies.
- Lifting and moving heavy objects, including items weighing up to 50 pounds independently , and heavier items with appropriate assistance or equipment.
- Bending, kneeling, squatting, reaching, climbing, and working at varying heights.
- Safely using ladders and approved material-handling equipment.
- Standing and walking for extended periods, including the majority of a work shift.
- Performing repetitive lifting, stocking, fixture assembly, cooler resets, and merchandising activities.
- Working for reasonable periods in refrigerated cooler environments.
- Working safely in active retail environments involving customers, deliveries, contractors, vendors, and ongoing store operations.
- Frequent travel is required , potentially including weekly and overnight travel.
- Must be able to travel by automobile and commercial airline as business needs require.
- Must be able to work at TA locations across the United States.
- Must maintain scheduling flexibility based on project and store requirements.
- Work schedules may include early mornings, evenings, overnight work, and occasional weekends depending on project needs.
- Help coordinate team travel, arrival times, transportation, and other field logistics as directed to improve efficiency and control project costs.
- Previous retail merchandising, store operations, field merchandising, reset, fixture installation, warehouse, or related experience required.
- Previous experience leading teams, projects, store resets, or field execution activities strongly preferred.
- Experience working with planograms, store layouts, floor plans, and fixture plans.
- Experience with cooler resets, inventory organization, or convenience/travel center merchandising preferred.
- Demonstrated ability to organize work, establish priorities, and keep a team focused on deadlines.
- Strong attention to detail and commitment to execution standards.
- Strong communication, coaching, and problem-solving skills.
- Ability to make sound decisions in a fast-moving field environment.
