The Bureau protects and serves California consumers by licensing and regulating over 42,000 businesses globally, from small single-person businesses to major corporations. The Bureau provides consumer protection by conducting investigations, proactive stings and sweeps for unlicensed activity, testing products to ascertain if they meet required standards, educating applicants and licensees, and initiating disciplinary action against businesses who violate Bureau laws regulations.
This position will cover the following counties: San Fernando, Santa Clarita, and Antelope Valley OR Alameda, Contra Costa, Marin, Napa, San Francisco, San Mateo, Santa Clara, Solano, and Sonoma. Effective July 1, 2025, the State of California implemented the Personal Leave Program 2025 (PLP 2025) which reduces an employee's monthly salary in exchange for leave credits. Employees appointed to this classification will have their monthly salary reduced and will accrue hours of PLP 2025 on the first day of each pay period as outlined on "Section 2113 - Personal Leave Program (PLP)" of the CalHR Manual. The salary range(s) included on this job posting do not reflect the reduction in pay. The SI works approximately 25 to 30 hours a week in the field, conducting investigations at various locations and completing reports during the remaining work hours. The use of a personal computer and telephone is essential. The SI must set up and inspect amenable products requiring occasional lifting and transporting of up to 75 pounds. The SI may occasionally work under difficult conditions and be exposed to extremes in temperature, high noise levels, storage containers, and large vehicles. The SI must be able to climb a four-rung stepladder. This position requires extensive driving within the incumbent's assigned territory and occasional travel throughout the state.

Special Requirements Criminal Offender Record Information: Title 11, section 703 (d) of the California Code of Regulations requires criminal record checks of all personnel who have access to Criminal Offender Record Information (CORI).
