Job Title: Material Handler Job Description

The Material Handler safely loads, unloads, transports, and organizes materials throughout a manufacturing plant. This role reads and interprets work orders, stages inventory, verifies incoming and outgoing materials, and operates forklifts and other material handling equipment to support efficient production flow.

Responsibilities

• Load and unload materials from trucks and other vehicles using forklifts, pallet jacks, and other material handling equipment.

• Transport materials to and from designated locations within the plant while following established routes and safety procedures.

• Read and interpret work orders, material lists, and related documentation to determine material requirements and staging priorities.

• Stage materials in designated areas to support production schedules and ensure timely availability of inventory.

• Open containers and packaging using appropriate hand tools and power tools, following safety guidelines.

• Verify inbound and outbound materials against purchase orders, packing lists, or other documentation to ensure accuracy and completeness.

• Label materials clearly with identifying information such as purchase order numbers, job numbers, or other tracking details.

• Use a tape measure to verify material dimensions and perform basic math to confirm counts, measurements, and quantities.

• Identify common steel shapes and other industrial materials to ensure correct handling and placement.

• Build pallets for products using hand and power tools when needed to secure and support materials.

• Operate sit-down forklifts and pallet jacks to move, stack, and organize materials safely and efficiently.

• Secure loads using straps, bracing, and padding to prevent damage or shifting during transport.

• Maintain a clean, organized storage area to promote efficient access to materials and support inventory control.

• Follow written and verbal instructions while working independently to complete daily tasks.

• Support general labor and production activities as needed to assist the broader operations team.

Essential Skills

• 6 months–1 year of material handling or warehouse experience.

• 1–2 years of experience in a warehouse or manufacturing environment.

• Proficiency operating a forklift, including sit-down forklifts.

• Experience with general material handling, loading, and unloading.

• Ability to work independently while following detailed instructions.

• Ability to read a tape measure accurately.

• Ability to perform basic math for counts, measurements, and simple calculations.

• Experience using pallet jacks and other basic material handling equipment.

• Comfort using hand tools and power tools for tasks such as opening containers and building pallets.

• Experience using RF scanners for inventory or material tracking.

• Ability to identify and handle common steel shapes or similar industrial materials.

• Capability to perform general labor tasks in a production or warehouse setting.

Additional Skills & Qualifications

• Familiarity with steel or industrial materials.

• Experience working in a non–temperature-controlled or semi climate-controlled manufacturing environment.

• Ability to read work orders, material lists, and related documentation.

• Experience in inventory handling and production support.

• Strong attention to detail when verifying materials against purchase orders and packing lists.

• Effective communication skills to coordinate with production and warehouse teams.

• Commitment to safe operation of forklifts, pallet jacks, and hand tools.

Work Environment

This role is based in a manufacturing facility with a semi climate-controlled environment and exposure to a non–temperature-controlled production floor. The standard shift runs from 7:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m., Monday through Friday, providing a consistent daytime schedule. You regularly use sit-down forklifts, pallet jacks, RF scanners, hand tools, and power tools to move and organize materials. The work involves standing, walking, and operating equipment throughout the shift, as well as working around steel and other industrial materials in an active production setting.

This is a Contract position based out of Broken Arrow, OK.

Pay and Benefits

The pay range for this position is $19.00 - $21.00/hr.

Individual compensation offered for this position within this range will depend on many factors, including qualifications, skills, relevant experience, job knowledge, geographic location, internal equity, and other pertinent job-related factors.
