Grease Technician / Material HandlerThe Grease Technician / Material Handler supports a chemical services operation within a heavy industrial manufacturing environment by ensuring all operating equipment on multiple production lines is properly lubricated and serviced. This role focuses on executing lubrication plans, handling grease and related materials, and working closely with operations and maintenance teams to keep equipment running safely and efficiently.ResponsibilitiesPerform proper lubrication of all operating equipment on various production lines in accordance with established procedures and lube preplans.Read, interpret, and follow written lubrication preplans and documentation for different machines and lube points.Use manual and automatic grease guns to lubricate bearings, motors, cylinders, couplings, and other designated lubrication points.Operate and maintain drum and keg grease pumps as needed to perform lubrication tasks safely and effectively.Meet all qualifications and job duties defined in the Chemical Service Technician Job Classification (D3).Apply basic mechanical aptitude to understand equipment components such as bearings, motors, pumps, and related systems.Troubleshoot basic mechanical, hydraulic, pneumatic, and lubrication-related issues and escalate more complex problems to maintenance personnel.Communicate clearly and professionally with plant operations and maintenance teams to report equipment issues, lubrication concerns, and safety observations.Follow preventive maintenance practices related to lubrication to reduce equipment downtime and extend equipment life.Use basic tools and equipment associated with mechanical, electrical, hydraulic, and pneumatic systems as required for lubrication-related tasks.Interpret basic blueprints, schematics, and equipment diagrams when necessary to identify lubrication points and service requirements.Work safely around heavy equipment, moving mechanical parts, and potential electrical hazards, adhering to all safety policies and procedures.Maintain a clean and organized work area, including proper handling, storage, and labeling of grease and chemical products.Walk long distances within the facility and climb stairs to access equipment located on different levels and in various areas of the plant.Lift and carry containers, tools, and materials weighing up to 40 pounds as part of daily work activities.Present a professional appearance and communicate confidently with onsite customer personnel, asking questions and clarifying instructions when needed.Essential SkillsHigh School Diploma or GED.Ability to meet all requirements of the Chemical Service Technician Job Classification (D3).Basic understanding of mechanical equipment in an industrial setting, including bearings, motors, pumps, and related components.Ability to read and follow written lubrication preplans and work instructions.Ability to use manual and automatic grease guns for lubrication of various equipment points.Ability to operate drum and keg grease pumps safely and effectively.Mechanical aptitude and comfort working around industrial machinery.Ability to travel long distances on foot within a large manufacturing facility and climb up and down stairs regularly.Ability to lift up to 40 pounds safely and repeatedly.Strong troubleshooting mindset with exposure to mechanical, electrical, hydraulic, and pneumatic systems.Basic familiarity with preventive maintenance practices in an industrial environment.Ability to communicate clearly and professionally with operations and maintenance personnel.Confidence to ask questions, seek clarification, and interact directly with onsite customer staff.Ability to work safely in areas with moving mechanical parts, potential electrical hazards, and chemical exposure.Additional Skills & QualificationsSome prior mechanical experience or demonstrated mechanical aptitude in an industrial or equipment-focused setting is preferred.Experience with lubrication, greasing, and handling industrial lubricants and fluids.Experience in troubleshooting and repair of mechanical systems, diesel engines, heavy equipment, transmissions, and related components.Exposure to electrical systems, PLC troubleshooting, and reading basic electrical schematics.Experience with hydraulics and pneumatics in a maintenance or technician role.Familiarity with welding, fabrication, and brake systems is beneficial.Ability to interpret blueprints, diagrams, and equipment schematics when identifying lubrication points.Comfort working with industrial chemicals, cleaners, coatings, oils, greases, and other chemical products used in manufacturing.Strong attention to detail and adherence to safety, quality, and documentation standards.Why Work Here?This opportunity offers a stable weekday schedule with no weekend work, providing a strong foundation for work-life balance. You work within a heavy industrial environment that may include exposure to fumes or airborne particles, as well as toxic or caustic chemicals associated with cleaners, coatings, oils, greases, and other industrial fluids. You may occasionally work near moving mechanical parts and face potential risks such as electrical shock and trip or slip hazards, making strict adherence to safety protocols essential. The noise level is loud, consistent with a busy production plant, and the role requires extensive walking across the facility and climbing stairs to access equipment on multiple levels. You will be onsite at a customer location and are expected to be presentable, maintain a professional appearance, and communicate clearly and confidently with customer personnel throughout your shift.Job Type & LocationThis is a Contract to Hire position based out of Waterloo, IA.Pay and BenefitsThe pay range for this position is $20.00 - $23.00/hr.
