Unit: Facilities Operations Admin Department: Facilities Ops Admin Duties & Responsibilities: VCU Facilities Operations provides timely, quality workmanship and service delivered in a cost-effective manner to support the university’s mission. Facilities Operations serves to be the facilities maintenance and service provider of choice for our customers. VCU’s Facilities Management Department is seeking to hire an Electrician for Facilities Operations. The Electrician utilizes knowledge of the electrical trade to perform preventive maintenance, repair, and installation of building infrastructure ensuring efficient operation of Zone facilities; provides exemplary customer service to all faculty, staff, and students supporting the University’s mission of teaching, high-impact research, and creative expression; identifies and documents system deficiencies using diagnostic tools and advises management of tasks requiring priority attention; and provides quality workmanship and service to maximize system availability and minimize unscheduled downtime. Responsibilities include (but are not limited to): Reactive/Service Work Independently respond to service requests requiring diagnosis and repair of various building infrastructure, such as fume hoods, exhaust systems, fire alarm systems, electrical distribution systems, lighting systems, motors, motor starters, low voltage controls, electrical portion of mechanical equipment, variable frequency drives and other electrical equipment/systems utilizing specialized knowledge of electrical theory and practice Independently respond to service requests requiring diagnosis and repair of plumbing, and mechanical systems Preventive Maintenance Independently perform and complete regularly scheduled preventive maintenance to various building infrastructure, such as fume hood and exhaust systems, motors, electrical distribution systems, lighting systems, and other electrical/mechanical equipment/systems Customer Service/Teamwork Works in a collaborative and collegial manner throughout the department, division and University Interact with others to collectively resolve problems, accomplish mutual goals, and foster an atmosphere of trust. Share information and ideas to improve customer service and promote Facilities Management’s goals. Listens to and anticipates customer needs; provides clear explanations; responds quickly; takes initiative to assist internal and external customers. Communicates respectfully to internal and external customers. Communication and Monitoring Work of Others Advise supervision and or management by recommending equipment maintenance tasks and identifying equipment needing priority attention. Communicate orally and in writing regarding work schedules, system problems, estimated completion times and effects of system problems on occupant safety and comfort. Work with lesser skilled team members in the various techniques of the trades to increase their skill level and ability to work independently. Use trade knowledge to monitor work of contractors to assure compliance with specifications, codes and drawings. Designated/Other Duties Other duties as assigned. Work/on-call during inclement weather and emergencies. Assume on-call responsibility on a rotating basis. Computer Skills/AiM Utilize computer skills to access email and research parts/information as required. Demonstrate working knowledge of AiM and AiM GO ensuring prompt completion of work requests and time card entry following all established work flow processes, including notes logs for all work requests over 30 days. Organize Mechanical Areas Clean and organize materials in the Shop and mechanical areas. Participates in periodic cleaning of shop. Qualifications: Minimum Qualifications Several years’ experience in commercial/institutional electrical and mechanical maintenance Ability to diagnose, repair, service and install a wide variety of electrical and mechanical systems Ability to communicate orally and in writing to supervision, other employees, and customers Knowledge of appropriate building codes Ability to read/interpret drawings, plans, specifications, and scopes Ability to use a wide variety of hand tools and power equipment High School diploma, GED, or equivalent required Virginia Driver’s License required State of Virginia Journeyman Electrical License required or the ability to obtain within the first year of employment Demonstrated ability to work in and foster an environment of respect, professionalism and civility with a population of faculty, staff, and students from all backgrounds and experiences, or a commitment to do so as a staff member at VCU Preferred Qualifications 5+ years' experience in commercial/institutional mechanical and electrical maintenance preferred Salary Range: $70,000 ($33.65/hr) - $75,000 ($36.05/hr) + up to $2,500 Sign-on Bonus Benefits: All full-time university staff are eligible for VCU’s robust benefits package that includes comprehensive health benefits, paid annual and holiday leave, generous tuition benefits, retirement planning and savings options, tax-deferred annuity and cash match programs, employee discounts, well-being resources, abundant opportunities for career development and advancement, and more.
