Core responsibilities

• Read and interpret blueprints, drawings, and layout specifications to plan assembly.
• Fit, align, and assemble structural sections for ships, barges, and other marine vessels.
• Measure stock, then cut and grind components to required dimensions.
• Tack pieces to hold alignment and prepare all metal components for welding.
• Use shipyard tools and equipment, including hand tools, power tools, cutting torches, and grinders.
