PLC Technician

Industry: Lumber Wage: Salary and benefits commensurate with experience Education Required: Certified Electrician/Instrumentation Technician, Maintenance Technician, or Electrical/Instrumentation Engineering Technologist Years’ Experience Required: 4‑7 years of controls and PLC experience. Requirements Education: Training beyond high school including either an Associate (A.S.) degree in Electronics Technology (or closely related technical field), or a combination of education and experience which may include skilled trades programs or military training. Years of Experience Required: 4‑7 years of electrical maintenance experience. Sawmill or wood products experience preferred. Experience: 4+ years of automation experience and/or industrial maintenance experience. Computer Skills: Standard computer skills; must have strong skills in document organization, the use of technical materials, and research techniques. Electronic Work Order System utilization is an asset. Ability to prioritize tasks to consistently meet deadlines. Communication Skills: Must be able to communicate verbally and in writing with all team members. Special Skills: Must possess the ability to function effectively in a team environment and interact productively with all levels of management and operations personnel; critical thinking and problem‑solving skills; with strong interpersonal skills. Responsibilities General diagnostic and programming of PLCs; Understand PLC operations. Install and maintain electrical control systems. Identify and resolve equipment malfunctions, working with manufacturers and field representatives as necessary. Collaborate with other departments to identify, define, and solve problems. Employee must perform safe and timely repairs to plant equipment in areas of electrical and instrument maintenance. Dismantle, adjust, repair, and assemble equipment according to layout plans, blueprints, operating or repair manual, rough sketches or drawings. Use test and diagnostic equipment to perform checkouts. Move or assist in the movement and installation of equipment. May be required to source equipment parts. Ensure productivity, housekeeping and quality of work standards are maintained within the PLC Technician’s scope of responsibility. Benefits Pay varies based upon the position with advancement opportunities available. Wages have recently been increased.
