Job Title: Registered Nurse - Labor and Delivery Profession: RN (Registered Nurse) Specialty: Labor and Delivery Duration: 13 weeks Shift: 12-hour Days Hours per Shift: 36 hours per week Experience: Minimum 2 years of experience required License: Required Certifications: BLS, ACLS, NRP; Intermediate or advanced FHM preferred Must-Have: Must have LDRP experience. Must be comfortable attending deliveries independently and circulating in C-sections. Must be comfortable assisting with catching and transitioning babies. Experience with high-risk cases such as preeclampsia, diabetes, and substance use issues is necessary. RNs are required to titrate drips, including Magnesium, Pitocin, and Insulin. Travelers need to function in Postpartum with routine mother and baby competencies. Description: This position is in a birthing center with a total of 34 beds. There are 2 OR suites for C-sections and 2 triage beds. The center typically sees 150-180 births per month. In 2022, there were 2,133 deliveries. The nurse-to-patient ratio follows AWHONN guidelines: 1:2 for L&D and 1:3-4 for couplets. There is a surgical tech present 24/7, along with a patient care assistant on each shift. An OB/GYN hospitalist is in house 24/7 to assist with triaging patients and emergent cases. There is also a neonatal nurse practitioner available 24/7. An anesthesia provider is present in house 24/7. The unit has equipment for respiratory therapy, including vents, Cpap, and BiPap. Weekend requirements involve working every other weekend, both Saturday and Sunday. Holiday requirements rotate with permanent staff. When placed on standby, the response time is 45 minutes. There is no floating to NICU; however, travelers will need to assist in Postpartum care. Scrubs will be provided, and a locker is available for personal items. Unit-specific training will occur over several shifts. The manager is supportive and values feedback for maintaining quality work standards. Travelers are encouraged to be flexible and open to adapting to new workflows and policies.
