Accountant

Clayton Services is searching for an Accountant to join a thriving company in the West Houston area. The Accountant will be responsible for supporting accurate financial reporting, managing revenue recognition, assisting with month-end close, and coordinating tax schedules with external CPA partners.

Job Type: Direct Hire

Pay Rate: $70,000-$80,000/year

Work Setting: Onsite to start then transitions to hybrid

Accountant Responsibilities:

• Maintain and support banking relationships and financial account management
• Prepare and coordinate tax-related documents and schedules for external CPA partners
• Prepare payroll journal entries, financial reports, and reconciliations
• Perform statutory reporting, financial analysis, and month-end close activities
• Maintain and reconcile the fixed asset register including additions, disposals, and depreciation schedules
• Conduct balance sheet variance analysis and investigate discrepancies
• Assist with preparing audit schedules and supporting external audits
• Ensure compliance with US GAAP and internal financial reporting policies
• Identify opportunities for process improvements within the accounting function
• Maintain accurate documentation of accounting processes and procedures
• Ensure system controls, data integrity, and regulatory compliance across financial systems
• Collaborate with finance leadership, operations teams, and project stakeholders to ensure accurate financial reporting
• Perform additional accounting and financial support duties as assigned

Accountant Skills and Abilities:

• Strong knowledge of US GAAP, including revenue recognition principles
• Experience with project accounting and billing cycles in a services-based environment
• Advanced Microsoft Excel skills including pivot tables, formulas, and lookup functions
• Experience with accounting systems such as Sage, NetSuite, Workday, Oracle, SAP, or similar platforms
• Strong analytical and financial reporting skills
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills
• Ability to prioritize multiple tasks and meet deadlines in a fast-paced environment
• Strong attention to detail and accuracy
• Ability to work independently and collaboratively within a team environment
• Ability to maintain confidentiality of company and client financial information

Accountant Education and Experience:

• Bachelor's degree in Accounting or Finance required
• CPA or MBA preferred
• 4–7+ years of progressive accounting experience
• Experience in professional services, consulting, or project-based environments preferred
• Experience supporting external audits preferred
