Windsor Laurelwood Center for Behavior Management Director of Clinical Services - MSW, LISW-S The Windsor-Laurelwood Center for Behavioral Medicine is a 159-bed facility located in beautiful Willoughby, Ohio, a short drive from downtown Cleveland. Recognized as a Top Performer by The Joint Commission, the hospital provides 24‑hour care and serves children, adolescents, and adults with psychiatric, behavioral health, and substance abuse issues. Our multidisciplinary treatment team includes board‑certified psychiatrists, psychologists, registered nurses, licensed social workers, case managers, and milieu and activity therapists. Windsor‑Laurelwood also features a Psychiatric Intensive Care Unit for adults, Intensive Outpatient, and Partial Hospitalization programs. We are looking for a dynamic therapist with chemical‑dependency experience to join our award‑winning Outpatient staff and facilitate an IOP group for chemical dependency. Qualifications Masters degree required. Minimum five years’ supervisory experience required. Experience working with all chemical dependency and mental health populations including child, adolescent, adult and recovery. Licensure: LISWS or LPCCS required. Ability to work occasional overtime and flexible hours as requested. Trained in non‑violent crisis intervention and CPR prior to accepting independent assignment or released from orientation. Position Summary This position is responsible for managing the day‑to‑day operation of all primary therapists and outpatient services, and ensuring quality delivery of national and local standards of care in both inpatient and outpatient services. Core Competencies Knowledge of skills necessary to work in a psychiatric clinical care environment. Knowledge of treatment plans, hospital admission procedures, and orientation for new patients. Demonstrates sound judgement and knowledge of safety and security policies to ensure the physical environment is safe and secure for all patients. Ability to provide sound therapeutic intervention. Ability to responsibly exercise independent judgement in assigned duties. Ability to communicate effectively, both orally and in writing, with good typing skills. Demonstrates technical skills in use of physical restraints and seclusion with attention to patient and staff safety. Ability to establish and maintain a therapeutic working relationship with family members for the purpose of support, guidance, and communication in the plan of care. Essential Duties and Responsibilities Interact with staff and patients in a purposeful and goal‑directed manner. Interact therapeutically with patients and demonstrate an understanding of basic principles of human behaviour. Verbalise and demonstrate through actions and awareness of the influence of behaviour and personality of self and other staff on patients. Observe changes in patient’s behaviour and health condition and report to the Lead Nurse; accurately observe and report changes in patient’s behaviour, either as a response to treatment or as a sign of a potential problem. Perform and ensure admission procedures are carried out efficiently and supportively. Collect pertinent data for patient assessment. Teach and reinforce unit’s philosophy and regulations to staff, patients and visitors. Implement the hospital and unit policies regarding safety and security; ensure appropriate procedures are followed in case of fire or fire drill, manage patient behaviour and supervise groups closely to prevent injury and loss of control of patient and/or group. Utilise effective communication skills both verbally and in writing and ensure entries in the medical record are legible and demonstrate correct usage of English. Keep information related to patient identity, history and course of treatment confidential. May initiate restraint and seclusion and assess patient readiness for discontinuation. Perform other job‑related duties as assigned. Identify problems related to patient care which require unit staff development programmes; plan and implement such programmes. As a member of the unit management team, collaborate with the Nurse Manager and Lead Nurse to identify problem areas related to staff performance and assist in counselling staff toward problem resolution. Participate in the supervision process by developing staff and unit goals and taking action to reach identified goals. Demonstrate the ability to work with a variety of individuals regardless of racial, ethnic, sexual orientation, or sociological backgrounds. Ensure patient orientation to the unit upon admission. Implement programmes as required on assigned patient care unit. Manage the milieu of assigned patient care unit. Coordinate programme implementation with assigned Lead Nurse. Coordinate patient programme needs with physicians. Perform patient record reviews daily (tracer audits). Supervise treatment planning process and critical occurrence reviews. Debrief staff and management of critical occurrences. Coordinate with external agencies relevant to patient case management with Clinical Coordinator staff. Perform monthly review of unit’s needs and resource allocation. Fully participate in the Quality Program, including but not limited to: Ensure team is compliant with regulations, accreditation standards, and all UHS and PIW P&Ps. Audit charts to ensure compliance; focus on documentation quality, completeness and content. Performance improvement: determine opportunities for improvement; facilitate performance improvement teams; monitor progress. Collect data for all PI plan measures, analyse data, develop action plans and submit report to PI Committee. Develop plan of correction for any deficiencies; implement interventions, monitor progress and submit evidence of compliance. Review and revise all applicable policies on a triennial basis or when policies and/or procedures change. Participate in all regulatory site visits, as needed. Address any staff deficiencies with retraining or disciplinary action.
