Position Overview Position: Junior Specialist in Research and Analysis of Equine Performance, Department of Veterinary Medicine and Epidemiology, University of California, Davis. Time: 50% appointment for one year starting August 2026. Salary range: Starting at $27.30 per hour at step 1. Application Window Open date: June 18, 2026. Position Description Responsibilities include: Planning and executing laboratory experiments for high‑quality data publication. Collecting and analyzing data in the laboratory, including electrocardiogram data, immunohistochemistry, ELISA, western blots, and rtPCR. Collecting data from live horses, harvesting necropsy tissues, and maintaining databases and archives of samples and data. Participating in interdisciplinary studies on equine athletic performance and field studies on genetic, nutritional, and environmental factors. Compiling data in spreadsheets, summarizing, performing statistical analyses, and assisting with writing methods and results sections of papers. Ordering supplies, maintaining a clean and safe lab environment, and presenting data in weekly lab meetings. Professional competence (5%): Participate in professional societies and review research proposals, journal manuscripts, and publications related to the area of expertise. University and Public Service (5%): Mentor and train undergraduate students and residents in the laboratory. The ideal candidate will have strong interpersonal, communication, and decision‑making skills; ability to work independently and as part of a team. Basic Qualifications Bachelor's degree in animal science, physiology, or a related field. Documented laboratory experience. Ability to work with spreadsheets and databases. Ability to work safely with chemicals and biohazards. Preferred Qualifications Equine handling experience. At least one year of benchtop research experience.
