Health and Safety Coordinator

Job Description This is an ideal position for an entry level candidate with 1-3 years experience. This will give the candidate the practical experience to further their safety career. Reporting to the Plant Safety supervisor, facilitate and assist in the identification, evaluation and control of safety and environmental risks at the location. Provide, assist and/or facilitate skills building and training of both leadership and plant employees. Responsibilities:

1. Monitor and ensure compliance with all safety, food safety, environmental, GMP rules, regulations, and policies.
2. Help facilitate and execute skills building programs as required.
3. Coordinate, interpret and ensure compliance with local, state and federal laws/regulations. Have a working knowledge of laws/regulations and implementation/impact at a plant setting.
4. Assist with conducting industrial hygiene monitoring for the facility.
5. Assist in auditing/inspecting, measuring and developing action plans regarding Health and Safety plant status and progress.
6. Follow all safety, environmental rules and regulations.
7. Adhere to and enforce Good Manufacturing Practices (GMP) and HACCP requirements.
8. Serve as an active member of the plant’s Safety Committee.
9. Reviewing new/modified equipment/processes for Health and Safety purposes as needed.
10. Attend daily production/quality meetings.
11. Develop and maintain safety and environmental policies for the plant.
12. Attend scheduled safety and GMP meetings.
13. New hire training and orientation.
14. Investigate safety related incidents.
15. Provide weekly tool box training topics.
16. Provide safety training to contractors.
17. Conduct/administer monthly safety training.
18. Complete all associated paperwork/reports.
19. Packaging Superintendent assumes responsibilities in his/her absence.

Qualifications: Qualifications Education: BS or Associate in industrial hygiene, safety or environmental science is preferred; or relevant experience. Related Experience: Preferred minimum of 1-5 years experience in a manufacturing environment. Skills : Proficiency in MS Word, Excel and Power Point; Proficient in navigating OSHA, EPA and other key HSE regulations/web sites. Competencies:

3. Presentation skills to enable effective training and communication to all levels of the organization.
4. Written and oral communication skills to enable the use of multiple communication media (workbooks, presentations, reports, etc.) as needed.
5. Change management skills are important to drive and sustain improvement in a fast-paced and changing work environment.

Additional Information Physical: Must be able to conduct plant walkthroughs and inspections/audits up to 4 hours at a time, to include walking and climbing up/down stairs and ladders (portable, fixed). Sensory: Must have the appropriate level of sensory acuity (visual, hearing, speaking, smell and touch) to be able to identify and react to normal, abnormal and alarm conditions (chemicals, temperature, etc.). Mental/Reasoning Must be able to logically and methodically work through and break down complex problems and processes to enable effective communication with all levels of the organization.
