Job Description

We are seeking a dedicated and experienced Material Handler for our shift operations. The position involves working Monday through Friday from 2:00 pm to 10:00 pm or Sunday through Thursday from 10:00 pm to 6:00 am. In this role, you will be responsible for operating forklifts and other equipment to efficiently load or move materials, supplying the production area with necessary materials, and ensuring accurate processing of required paperwork.

Responsibilities

• Operate forklifts to load or move materials and supply production areas from inventory.

• Load or unload materials onto or from trailers, pallets, trays, or shelves.

• Process required paperwork accurately.

• Read work orders via an onboard computer and follow oral instructions to ascertain materials and products to be moved.

• Examine materials received, verify part numbers, and check for discrepancies such as damaged shipments.

• Convey materials or products from storage or work sites to designated areas.

• Scan and attach identifying tags or labels to materials, bales, or other containers.

• Lift heavy objects by hand or with equipment to assist machine operators.

• Move levers and pedals to drive hi-lo and control movement of the lifting apparatus.

• Operate lift trucks in a safe and efficient manner.

• Maintain professional relationships with customers and co-workers.

• Perform other duties as assigned to meet business needs.

Essential Skills

• Non-palletized forklift experience is mandatory.

• Strong communication skills, including written, verbal, and computer-generated communication.

• Ability to work independently.

• Strong knowledge of receiving, warehouse, and material handling methods and operations.

Additional Skills & Qualifications

• High school diploma or GED equivalent preferred.

• One year of relevant experience or any equivalent combination of education and experience.

• Strong computer skills.

• Ability to regularly lift or move 50 lbs and occasionally lift and move up to 100 lbs.

Work Environment

The work environment is a manufacturing plant using corrugated paper, performed in a shop setting. Employees are regularly exposed to dust, odors, noise, and variable temperatures, and work with moving mechanical parts. The work requires physical demands such as lifting, reaching, and operating machinery.

This is a Contract position based out of Grand Rapids, MI.

Pay and Benefits

The pay range for this position is $21.00 - $21.00/hr.
