S/he is responsible for advising and preparing orders for customers based on the information from the service counter clerks and manager. They are responsible for the highest level of execution in regards to cutting and preparing meat product in addition to receiving, inspecting, storage, rotating the product. - Create an environment that enables customers to feel welcome, important and appreciated by answering questions regarding products sold within the department and throughout the store.
- Gain and maintain knowledge of products sold within the department and be able to respond to questions and make suggestions about products.
- Cut meats to customer's requests using proper cutting equipment.
- Offer and prepare cuts that customer may inquire about with department manager assistance.
- Inform customers of meat specials.
- Cuts, trays, and packages all of the required meat products required for the day.
- Maintains the organization, stacking, and rotating of all meat products in the cooler and freezer.
- Uses knowledge of scales, weight measures, and tares to accurately weigh and label meat products; includes packaging and wrapping product and following the proper dating procedures.
- Maintains proper safety practices and care while using all the cutting accessories available in the meat department; complies with the use of mesh gloves while using a knife.
- Participates in pre-inventory preparation; includes back stock and assuring tags match products.
- Sustains a high level of product knowledge and product preparation.
- Walks department regularly to ensure an organized, sanitary, and overall clean appearance at all times.
- Check product quality to ensure freshness. Review 'sell by' dates and take appropriate action.
- Label, stock and inventory department merchandise.
- Ensure country of origin labels and signage is correct for all meat products.
- Report product ordering/shipping discrepancies to the department manager.
- Stay current with present, future, seasonal and special ads.
- Adhere to all food safety regulations and guidelines.
- Ensure proper temperatures in cases and coolers are maintained and temperature logs are maintained.
- Comply with safety procedures and identify unsafe conditions and notify store management.
- Practice preventive maintenance by properly inspecting equipment and notify appropriate department or store manager of any items in need of repair.
- Notify management of customer or employee accidents.
- Report all safety risk, or issues, and illegal activity, including: robbery, theft or fraud.
- Must be able to perform the essential functions of this position with or without reasonable
- High School Diploma or equivalency with at least 3-4 years of relevant experience.
- Demonstrate knowledge of department functions.
- Proficient computer and math skills.
- Possesses a current Food Handler Certificate or able to obtain upon employment.
- Must be capable of providing and modeling exceptional customer service.
- Must have excellent communication skills in order to communicate effectively with customers, store leadership, and fellow-team members.
- Must be detail oriented, self-motivated, and able to work independently or in groups.
- Must have the physical ability to stand for extended periods of time, bend, climb, balance, stoop to grasp objects, kneel, crouch, crawl, frequently push/pull up to 100 lbs., frequently lift and/or move loads up to 50 lbs., and occasionally lift 75 lbs.
- Ability to enter the coolers and freezers thereby being subjected to and withstanding frequent temperature changes for extended periods of time.
- Occasional high stress when dealing with systems/customers/staff.
- Able to work a flexible schedule with various shifts, including weekends and holidays, as determined by the store/business needs and as required to ensure adequate store staffing.
- Must have reliable source of transportation.
- The ability to be reached during/after work hours.
