Job Summary This position reports to the Director for Custodial Services Student Housing and Dining. Acts on behalf of the Director during absences providing direction and leadership for the unit. This position is critical in the coordination of custodial services for Academic Year Housing and Summer Conference Housing. Liaison for outsourced contracts, manage, Custodial Services with planning and organizing custodial services for the department. Responsible for developing, coordinating, tracking and implementing training for new employees and continued training for current employees. Training includes but is not limited to safety protocols, equipment usage and cleaning procedures. This position oversees equipment and cleaning supply purchase and inventory. Apply By Date August 18th 2026 by 11:59PM Qualifications Minimum Qualifications - For full consideration, applicants are encouraged to upload license and/or certification if required of the position Required to hold a valid California driver's license, have a driving record that is in accordance with local policies/procedures, and/or enroll in the California Employer Pull Notice Program High school diploma and/or equivalent certification/experience/training Experience overseeing daily activities of custodial employees, including planning, organization, and direction of routine custodial operations as well as projects, to provide an orderly, safe and efficient operation. Experience in recruitment of, training, motivation, performance management, and supervision of custodial staff, demonstrating effective interpersonal and work leadership skills to provide guidance to other personnel in a unionized work environment. Intermediate computer skills, including word processing, updating spreadsheets, utilizing project management software, e-mail and calendaring systems. Knowledge of safety procedures, safeguards of hazardous materials, custodial standard operating processes, care and maintenance of power equipment, as well as proper handling and mixture of chemicals and green cleaning supplies. Business knowledge to support development of and management of operational and staffing budgets, inventory management and purchasing processes. Solid verbal and written communication skills in the English language, active listening, flexibility, critical thinking, multi-tasking and time management, demonstrating the ability to prepare a variety of correspondence, reports, agreements, training documents, and performance evaluations. Skill to maintain confidential records and information and share these in a professional manner. Preferred Qualifications Bachelor's Degree in related area and/or equivalent experience / training Organizational skills to achieve timely progress on multiple simultaneous projects, distribute effort appropriately among the projects, meet deadlines, and maintain a high level of productivity. Interpersonal skills to work effectively with and provide customer service to a diverse population; communication skills to establish and maintain cooperative working relationships. Skill to exercise tact and diplomacy in dealing with others to secure necessary information and cooperation from a variety of individuals; skill to conduct effective negotiations, resolve disagreements and conflicts. Knowledge of campus residential housing and/or dining operations custodial needs. Key Responsibilities 40% - Management & Supervision 30% - Business Operations 30% - Staff Training and Development Department Overview Student Housing and Dining Services (SHDS) is a self supporting auxiliary that provides housing and dining services to approximately 15,000 undergraduate, graduate and students with families who live in on-campus residential facilities (university owner/managed and Public-Private-Partnerships), as well as providing residential, retail and catering dining services for the campus community. SHDS also provides student support and conference housing services to the campus and general community. For more information about SHDS visit our website at The Facilities Services unit is one of 6 major units within the SHDS Department. Facilities Services oversees all the daily Custodial Services, maintenance, major maintenance, preventive maintenance, capital projects and painting for SHDS. Facilities Services encompass approximately 1.9 million square feet and over 100 residential, dining, and administrative buildings. The Custodial Services sub‑unit of SHDS provides for daily custodial services in 4 residence hall areas, Orchard Park, Primero Grove, Segundo Services Center, Student Housing Administration Building and off campus Student Housing Apartments. Custodial Services employs more than 150+ employees with an annual budget over 12 million dollars. Smoking, the use of smokeless tobacco products, and the use of unregulated nicotine products (e-cigarettes) will be strictly prohibited on any UC Davis owned or leased property, indoors and outdoors, including parking lots and residential space. Specific hazards include custodial cleaning supplies such as acid cleaners, ammonia, lye and bleach as well as blood and other potentially infectious materials. Facilities may have asbestos-containing construction materials. Work in an area where there is constant traffic and in confined spaces. Work area can be dusty, wet and/or smelly. May be required to work a non-standard work schedule that may include nights, weekend or alternate schedules. Carry University provided radios, cell phones, pagers or other telecommunications equipment which would facilitate communication between the department and employee during non-work hours.
