Position: RN - Med Surg

Location: Pagosa Springs, CO

Shift Schedule:

• Day Shift: 0615 - 1845
• 3 days per week
• Guaranteed Hours: 36 hours per week

Position Summary

We are seeking an experienced Med Surg Registered Nurse (RN) to provide high-quality inpatient care to patients in the Med Surg Unit. The RN will assess and prioritize patient needs, administer nursing care and procedures, monitor and reassess patient conditions, document assessments, educate patients and their families, collaborate with healthcare providers, and support continuity of care to prevent readmissions.

Required Qualifications

• Minimum of 5 years of Med Surg or Emergency Room experience required.
• Previous travel nursing experience is required.
• Cerner EHR/EMR experience is required.
• Graduate of an accredited RN program required.
• Current Colorado or Compact RN license.
• Current AHA BLS certification.
• Current ACLS certification.
• Current PALS certification.
• Basic computer skills and electronic health record experience are essential.

Essential Responsibilities

• Provide patient care within the RN scope of practice and according to physician/provider orders.
• Perform comprehensive patient assessments, care planning, nursing interventions, reassessments, and evaluations of provided care.
• Monitor patients for changes in condition and report abnormal findings to the appropriate provider.
• Administer medications, IV therapy, oxygen therapy, blood products, and other treatments accurately and in a timely manner.
• Operate infusion pumps and document accurately in the electronic health record.
• Complete required Cerner documentation per competencies, training, policies, and procedures.
• Use Care Compass to organize and document assessments, care tasks, procedures, and patient education.
• Provide age-specific nursing care and reassessment of patient condition.
• Demonstrate knowledge of cardiac monitoring and rhythm interpretation, taking appropriate action when necessary.
• Educate patients and families regarding disease processes, treatment plans, medications, pain management, wound care, discharge planning, and follow-up care.
• Utilize SBAR format for care transfer when appropriate.
• Adhere to infection prevention practices, universal precautions, and National Patient Safety Goals.
• Maintain patient confidentiality and safeguard patient rights, dignity, and privacy.
• Collaborate with providers, staff, and other departments to support interdisciplinary patient care.
• Mentor nursing staff and promote continuous learning.

Work Environment and Physical Requirements

This role is performed in a hospital setting with exposure to work-related stress, environmental factors, and frequent interruptions. Job responsibilities may include heavy lifting, carrying, pushing, pulling, standing, walking, bending, reaching, kneeling, and assisting with patient movement and positioning. The role may also involve exposure to blood, bodily fluids, communicable diseases, radiation, chemicals, hazardous materials, and potential verbal or physical abuse.
