General Dermatology Medical Assistant

The Dermatology MA has a much broader clinical support role. They prepare the patient, assist the provider, perform delegated clinical tasks, and help keep the clinic moving efficiently.

Before the visit

• Review the schedule and prepare      charts. 
• Verify reason for visit. 
• Room patients. 
• Obtain and document vital signs      when appropriate-at providers request only
• Review medications, allergies, pharmacy, and medical history. 
• Update dermatologic history. 
• Document the patient's primary      concerns. 
• Prepare patients for skin      examinations. 
• Provide gowns and appropriate      draping. 
• Photograph lesions according to      office protocol. 
• Document lesion locations/body sites. 

During the visit

• Assist the dermatologist with examinations. 
• Serve as a chaperone when appropriate. 
• Assist with: 
  • Shave biopsies 
  • Punch biopsies 
  • Cryotherapy 
  • Electrodessication and curettage       
  • Excisions 
  • Cyst procedures 
  • Intralesional injections 
  • Suture placement/removal as permitted and trained 
  • Dressing changes 
• Set up sterile or clean procedure trays. 
• Handle instruments and supplies. 
• Label specimens correctly. 
• Prepare pathology requisitions. 
• Assist with local anesthetic preparation and other medications according to practice policy and      applicable scope requirements. 

After the visit

• Apply dressings. 
• Review provider-approved wound-care instructions with patients. 
• Clean and turn over exam rooms. 
• Process specimens for pathology pickup. 
• Schedule or coordinate follow-up procedures. 
• Assist with prescription/refill requests for provider review. 
• Assist with prior authorizations.      
• Communicate provider-approved results and instructions. 
• Track biopsies, labs, referrals, and outstanding clinical tasks. 
• Maintain appropriate inventory and supplies. 
• Follow OSHA, infection-control, sharps, sterilization, and HIPAA requirements.

Scribe & Clinical Documentation Required throughout all Phases of Visit

Provide real-time scribing support during patient visits, accurately documenting the provider-patient encounter in the electronic medical record (EMR).

Additional Responsibilities

· Pathology results- outreach scheduling and referrals

· Autoclave Operations- Sterilization

· Canisters 

· Quest Diagnostics login/workflow

· Surgical Sterilization Tray Setup

· Cleaning packing instruments

Qualifications

• Certified as a Medical Assistant (CMA) or Certified as a Clinical Medical Assistant (CCMA)
• Previous experience in a clinic setting is preferred, particularly dermatology.
• Strong understanding of medical terminology
• Experience scribing or documenting visit in real time
• Ability to work effectively as a team member and maintain professionalism at all times

Schedule

• Full-time
• Monday-Friday
• Daytime hours aligned with practice operations
• No weekends

• Competitive salary base $20.00 to $26.00
