Provide a proactive, developmental guidance program to encourage all students to maximize personal growth and development. Offer academic and social service support to optimize learning, increase attendance, and reduce barriers to school success. Qualifications Master’s degree in guidance and counseling Valid Texas counseling certificate Knowledge of counseling procedures, student appraisal, and career development Excellent organizational, communication, and interpersonal skills Ability to instruct students and manage their behavior Excellent problem-solving abilities Three years teaching experience Program Management Uses a planning process to define needs, priorities, and program objectives. Implements a developmental and balanced program. Evaluates the effectiveness of individual activities and the overall program in meeting desired student outcomes. Educates the school staff, parents, and the community about the guidance program through a public information program. Guidance Outlines, in writing, a campus guidance curriculum consistent with the district’s guidance program plan and tailored to campus needs. Teaches guidance units effectively. Consults with administrators and teachers regarding the teaching of the developmental guidance curriculum. Supports teachers in teaching “essential knowledge and skills” identified in the state guidance curriculum. Involves students in personalized educational and career awareness. Presents relevant information accurately and without bias. Counseling Provides systematic individual counseling. Responds to students individually. Provides systematic group counseling. Uses accepted theories and effective techniques appropriate to school counseling. Consults with parents, teachers, administrators, and other relevant individuals to enhance their work with students. Provides professional services directly to students as required (e.g., record management, academic planning, tutoring). Advocates for students. Coordination and Referral Maintains a communication system that effectively collects and disseminates information about students to other professionals. Develops and maintains positive working relationships with school and community resources. Accurately assesses students and their families’ needs for referral. Participates actively in the referral process for special programs and services. Assessment Participates in the planning and evaluation of the school group standardized testing program. Interprets test and appraisal results appropriately for school personnel, students, and parents. Uses other sources of student data as assessment tools for educational planning. Maintains the confidentiality and proper use of student assessment records. Professionalism Observes ethical standards of the Texas School Counselor Association and relevant legal standards. Pursues continuous professional growth and development. Selects counselor interventions appropriate to students’ issues and circumstances. Creates an atmosphere of confidence, understanding, and respect to foster a helping relationship. Maintains professional records and positive relationships with other counselors. Working Conditions Tools/Equipment Used: Standard office equipment including personal computer and peripherals. Posture: Prolonged sitting with occasional bending/stooping, pushing/pulling, and twisting. Motion: Repetitive hand motions including frequent keyboarding and mouse use, occasional reaching. Lifting: Occasional light lifting ( Environment: May involve prolonged or irregular hours and occasional districtwide travel. Mental Demands: Work with frequent interruptions; maintain emotional control under stress. Position Type Full-Time Salary $58,883 Per Year Job Requirements At least 3 years of relevant experience preferred. Master’s degree preferred.
