Job Title: CNC Machine Operator
Job Description

The CNC Machine Operator sets up, programs, and operates CNC equipment to perform precision machining tasks such as drilling, grinding, and milling. This role interprets blueprints and mechanical drawings, translates instructions into computer commands, and ensures that all parts meet quality and specification requirements within a busy machine shop environment.

Responsibilities

  • Prepare CNC machines for operation by setting up tools, fixtures, and materials according to job specifications.
  • Operate CNC machines to perform tasks such as drilling, grinding, milling, and other machining processes.
  • Read and interpret blueprints, mechanical drawings, and other technical documents to understand job requirements and desired results.
  • Translate work instructions and part specifications into accurate computer commands and CNC programs.
  • Perform basic programming and adjustments on CNC machines to optimize performance and part quality.
  • Use precision measurement tools such as calipers and hand tools to inspect parts and verify dimensional accuracy.
  • Monitor machine operations, identify issues, and make necessary adjustments to maintain quality and productivity.
  • Follow established fabrication processes and machining procedures to ensure consistent, high-quality output.
  • Set up and operate lathes, mills, and other related machining equipment as required.
  • Maintain a clean and organized work area and follow all safety guidelines and shop protocols.
  • Communicate effectively with team members and supervisors regarding job status, issues, and improvement opportunities.
  • Support production needs for multiple projects and clients within the machine shop.
Essential Skills
  • Proven experience as a CNC operator in a machine shop or similar manufacturing environment.
  • Demonstrated skill in operating CNC machinery, tooling, and related machining equipment such as lathes and mills.
  • Proficiency with precision measurement tools, including calipers and hand tools, to verify part dimensions.
  • Ability to read and interpret mechanical documents, blueprints, and technical drawings accurately.
  • Computer literacy with a basic understanding of computer programming and CAD/CAM systems.
  • Solid mechanical aptitude and strong math skills for measurements, tolerances, and calculations.
  • Strong attention to detail with a results-driven approach to meeting quality and production targets.
  • Effective communication skills to collaborate with team members and support shop operations.
  • Successfully completed apprenticeship in machining or a closely related trade.
  • High school diploma or equivalent.
Additional Skills & Qualifications
  • Certificate or diploma in engineering or a relevant discipline is a plus.
  • Experience with a variety of fabrication processes and machining techniques.
  • Ability to program and machine parts using CNC equipment from technical specifications.
  • Familiarity with operating different types of CNC machines, including CNC mills and CNC lathes.
  • Comfort working with multiple projects and varying client requirements in a fast-paced environment.

Work Environment

This role is based in a machine shop environment that supports multiple clients in the Mid-West Tennessee region. You will work hands-on with CNC machines, lathes, mills, and a range of fabrication and precision measurement tools. The position follows a first-shift schedule, Monday through Friday from 7:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. The shop environment is production-focused, with an emphasis on safety, organization, and adherence to machining and fabrication processes, and requires appropriate work attire suitable for a manufacturing and machining setting.

This is a Contract to Hire position based out of Cumberland City, TN.

Pay and Benefits

The pay range for this position is $28.00 - $30.00/hr.
