The ideal candidate brings deep technical expertise in accounting for income taxes, with hands‑on experience in both the preparation and review of domestic and international tax provisions for public and private companies. In Ryan's flexible work environment, candidates will be considered anywhere in the U.S. for this opportunity. Preferred locations include Dallas, TX; Washington, D.C.; and Pittsburgh, PA. Job Description Depending on level, you may lead, manage, and execute federal income tax consulting engagements to drive value for Ryan’s corporate clients or be an individual contributor. The job description below contains Manager level responsibilities, however, the job duties will vary based on level of role. The Manager is responsible for managing a team of consultants that provide review and audit services to clients and ensuring that they are identifying and pursuing tax recovery opportunities. The manager will oversee ongoing projects and interactions between team members, clients, and taxing jurisdictions and be responsible for reviewing and evaluating all aspects of an engagement. In addition, the Manager is responsible for making appeal recommendations and managing the appeal process for relevant clients. The Manager is responsible for creating positive team member experiences, which lead to excellent client service and drive revenue and profit for the company. A successful Manager will be able to work on multiple engagements, manage key client relationships, and drive revenue and profit for the company, and mentor and develop junior team members to help them progress in their careers. Duties and Responsibilities People: Create a positive team member experience. Leads team in developing project workplans and scheduling associated project deliverables. Acts as a mentor, guiding team members on their career paths. Client: Builds strong relationships with clients and with the firm’s leadership. Travels to client locations to gather information. Performs as the oversight to the quality of work performed by the team for clients. Prepares and conducts client presentations. Assists with client billing and financial forecasting. Responds to client inquiries and requests from tax authorities. When necessary, defends client tax positions in court. Value: Maintains a professional and positive attitude at all times, being a team player and able to multitask and adjust to changing priorities. Manages complex income tax projects, especially in the Tax Accounting Methods area as well as other federal tax planning opportunities. Works effectively in a complex, deadline-driven environment. Handles tasks in a timely manner and with a high degree of accuracy. Handles and safeguards confidential information and sensitive material. Possesses solid analytical aptitude, research, and problem-solving skills. Utilizes strong grammar, spelling, and proofreading skills. Reviews documentation and researches issues as needed. Effectively delegates work among team. Prepares Forms 3115 and statements required as project deliverables. Performs other duties as assigned. Education and Experience: Four-year college degree from an accredited institution in practice-relevant area with 3+ years practice-relevant experience, including 1+ year of management experience (formal or informal). Computer Skills: To perform this job successfully, an individual must have beginner’s knowledge of Microsoft® Word, Access, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook, and Internet navigation and research. Certificates and Licenses: Valid driver’s license required. Supervisory Responsibilities: Requires limited supervisory responsibilities, including training peers and checking work for accuracy and completeness. Work Environment: Standard indoor working environment. Occasional long periods of sitting while working at computer. Occasional long periods of standing while copying. Position requires regular interaction with employees and clients both in person and via e-mail and telephone. Independent travel requirement: 30 to 40%.
