Job Title: Registered Nurse Profession: RN Specialty: Stepdown Duration: 13 weeks Shift: Day Shift Hours per Shift: 12 hours Experience: Minimum 1 year License: Required Certifications: BLS (AHA) Must-Have: Must have EPIC experience. Candidates must be able to handle a 6 patient (med-surg) or a 3 patient (stepdown) assignment. Description: This is a 29-bed unit currently under construction. All beds will be equipped for stepdown care and are expected to open in the first quarter of 2026. The nurse-to-patient ratios are 3:1 for stepdown and 6:1 for the floor. The unit serves both floor and stepdown patients based on patient and hospital needs. There is a diverse patient population with primarily medical diagnoses. RNs will have orders written to titrate drips, including heparin, insulin, anti-hypertensives, anti-arrhythmics, phenobarbital, ketamine, and various pain management options. The unit employs charge nurses and house supervisors 24/7. Charge RNs may take an assignment when the unit first opens, but the goal is to maintain a free charge RN. Clinical Associates (nurse aides) are present on the unit with a target ratio of 1:10. Equipment includes CPAP, BiPAP, HiFlow, and vents in stepdown. Vents requiring setting adjustments will be transferred to ICU. There is a remote telemetry surveillance center with central monitoring available. RNs are not expected to read their own strips. The telemetry monitoring equipment used is Phillips. Shifts are 12 hours long, and while block scheduling is not guaranteed, efforts will be made to accommodate requests. Weekend positions are available and expected for agency RNs. There is an expectation to work approximately half of all recognized holidays. There is no call or standby requirement. The first to float or be pulled to other floors or stepdown units. The dress code allows for any combination of royal blue and white. A cancellation policy applies to assignments. Charting is done using the EPIC system.
