Adjunct Surgical Technology Instructor

Job Description We are currently looking for an Adjunct Instructor for our Surgical Technology program. Adjunct faculty members report to their respective Dean and may also have a dotted line reporting responsibility to a specified Department/Program Director or General Education Chair. Adjunct faculty members are student-centered teaching mentors who assist students to progress through their academic programs to completion. Essentially, the adjunct faculty member’s responsibilities involve instruction and assessment of student learning. Monday-Friday day and evening courses depending on quarterly class schedule. Responsibilities Facilitate student learning in face-to-face, online, hybrid, and/or HyFlex environments, delivering effective instruction, evaluating student learning, and grading assignments promptly. Engage students using collaborative learning, experiential learning, and/or problem-based learning techniques. Deliver course curriculum utilizing the University’s learning management system. Participate in course and program level learning assessments, defining student learning outcomes, administering measures, and suggesting improvements. Work with the Dean, Department Chair, and/or Program Director on course map development, revision, and material selection. Schedule, supervise, debrief, and evaluate students in clinical, externship, observation, field experience, and similar settings as appropriate. Engage in student retention activities, reaching out to students with excessive absences and documenting retention activities. Communicate availability (e.g., office hours) to all students via email, phone, or other private contact. Attend graduation as encouraged. Perform other duties as assigned. Requirements Associate degree in Surgical Technology required; master’s degree preferred. Surgical Technologist certification through NBSTSA required. At least one year of experience as a certified surgical technologist. At least one year of experience working with students. Equivalent combination of education and work experience may be considered. Excellent writing, oral communication, leadership, customer service, organizational, and interpersonal skills. Ability to coordinate multiple projects simultaneously and efficiently while meeting deadlines. Ability to function efficiently in a stressful work environment. Ability to work a flexible schedule, including evenings, weekends, and travel as dictated by the course schedule. Must be able to sit and/or stand for long periods, stand a move about the campus, and communicate clearly with students, faculty, and staff.
