Scrum Master

The Project Manager/Scrum Master - Senior is a member of the Information Security department specific PMO, managing the technology related scrum team utilizing SAFe agile methodology within the Cyber Security Department. These are large, complex programs and projects involving multiple departments at Amtrak as well as different outside vendors and sub vendors depending upon the program. The scrum master's responsibilities include ensuring that development teams follow scrum framework values and agile practices, mentoring and motivating the teams to improve processes, facilitating meetings, decision-making processes, and eliminating team impediments. The scrum master must follow the industry standard agile practices and effectively manage and mentor development teams. An outstanding scrum master should have excellent interpersonal, project management, and problem‑solving skills and demonstrate an in‑depth knowledge of a business area to identify and communicate how OT solutions can be modernized. Essential Functions Using agile methodology values, principles, and practices to plan, manage, and deliver solutions. Training, mentoring, and supporting scrum teams to follow agile values, principles, and practices. Determining and managing tasks, issues, risks, and action items. Scheduling and facilitating scrum events, meetings, and decision‑making processes. Monitoring progress and performance and helping teams to make improvements. Planning and organizing demos and product/system testing. Ensuring the proper use of collaborative processes and removing impediments for the scrum team. Tracking project processes, deliverables, and financials. Preparing and presenting status reports to upper management, stakeholders, and/or customers. Ensuring quality of Scrum execution: story card definition of readiness and done, commitments on‑time delivery, and the highest customer experience. Working with Product Owner to ensure a proper balance between features and a high‑quality product. Facilitating Release (Planning) Workshop. Coaching the Scrum Team, including the Product Owner, on agile requirements, planning, backlog refinement, and best practices. Updating teams’ activities in a project management tracking tool to ensure transparency of release vision. Promoting commonly accepted Agile/Scrum practices. Promoting transparency by ensuring all Scrum events take place to facilitate inspection and adaptation. Coordinating among the Scrum Team and monitoring adherence to Scrum practices. Keeping the team focused on current Sprint goals (visible charts, stand‑up focused). Evaluating criteria for product and proposal analysis. Deliverables Deliver programs and projects on schedule and on budget. Present projects at the Quality Checkpoints. Present projects at the Department Level Project Reviews. Requirements Bachelor's degree in computer science, information technology, or a relevant field preferred. Working knowledge of agile methodology, techniques, and frameworks, such as Scrum, Kanban, and JIRA. 8+ years of experience as a scrum master or in a similar role. At least 8 years’ experience and significant hands‑on Program and Project management experience from project initiation to implementation using formal project management methodologies and processes. Demonstrated ability to interact with internal and external stakeholders, protect departmental interests, and communicate effectively. Demonstrated ability to apply strong analytical skills; leadership and management experience. Demonstrated effective communication and writing skills, able to tailor messages to the audience. Demonstrated experience managing multiple projects simultaneously. Demonstrated experience using MS Project Office Professional and MS Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Visio. Preferred At least five years’ experience with project management of Information Security related projects. At least five years’ experience with project management tools such as Microsoft Project Server (EPM), etc. Certifications CSM, SAFe 6 related.
