Mental Health Tech - 2nd Shift

Mental Health Technician

Provides routine non-acute physical care for patients, as well as educational groups based on needs identified in the Master Treatment Plan.

Major duties and responsibilities include:

• Following program schedule with minimal supervision
• Ensuring patient compliance with program rules and guidelines
• Being courteous and professional to patients, family members, and significant others
• Completing patient procedures accurately and within time frame as specified by hospital policy
• Completing required documentation specific to position in a clear and concise manner
• Attending scheduled hospital inservices and completing staff education attendance record
• Practicing good hand-washing techniques and following Universal Precautions
• Alerting supervisors to risk management and quality concerns
• Dressing appropriately to position
• Being flexible and positive in accepting responsibility for patients' leisure time and maintenance, therapeutic milieu
• Checking with RN prior to and at end of shift for report and direction
• Displaying consistency and being positive in interactions with others
• Willingly serving as preceptor to new employees and role-modeling positive images
• Facilitating activity focused program groups as assigned
• Incorporating service specific knowledge into daily activities
• Maintaining up to date CPR certification
• Willingly accepting additional responsibilities outside routine job functions
• Adhering to all safety policies and safe work practices
• Attending hospital safety trainings
• Adhering to all hospital policies and procedures
• Reporting all accidents immediately

Qualifications:

Education, Training and Experience: High School Diploma or GED required. Preferred experience in a mental health field with demonstrable competence in required knowledge and responsibilities.

Knowledge required:

• Competence in gathering designated admission information, Recreational Therapy information and explaining the Patient Rights and Responsibilities
• Basic knowledge of emotional and mental health and disease concepts including the disease of addiction
• Clear communication / interaction skills and competency in facilitating skills groups
