UPMC East in Monroeville, PA is hiring a full-time professional staff nurse to support the 3E Stepdown Unit. This full-time position will work three, 12-hour shifts per week, with some weekends and holidays required.

Sign-On Bonus Details:

$10,000 for graduate nurses. $20,000 for registered nurses with one or more years of experience. Candidates hired into a sign-on bonus-eligible role will be asked to make a two-year work commitment to UPMC East.

Applicants will be placed in the appropriate job title and salary from the My Nursing Career Ladder based on their individual experience and education. Title and salary will be determined based on education and nursing experience.

Purpose

The professional staff nurse is a registered nurse (RN) or graduate nurse (GN) and a member of the care delivery team. The professional staff nurse is responsible for setting the standards for the level and quality of care. The professional staff nurse has responsibility, authority, and accountability for the provision of nursing care. The professional staff nurse manages and provides patient care activities for a group of patients and their families through the application of independent judgment, communication, and collaboration with all team members. The role of the professional staff nurse encompasses the beginnings of leadership, partnership, collaboration, and supervision. The professional staff nurse establishes and maintains collaborative relationships with physicians, other healthcare providers, patients, and their families, to achieve desired patient outcomes throughout the continuum of care. The professional staff nurse begins to demonstrate a commitment to the community and to the nursing profession.

Responsibilities

• Actively engages in clinical development and/or RN residency program for new hires.

Qualifications

• 0–2 years of experience.
• BSN preferred.

• UPMC offers flexible scheduling options, including programs for primarily night-shift or weekend-shift work with premium pay differentials.
• Employees entering these programs must have at least 6 months of nursing experience and may need to complete orientation during regular business hours.

Licensure, Certifications, and Clearances

• UPMC-approved national certification preferred.
• Current licensure as a registered professional nurse (RN) in the facility's state or via a nursing licensure compact (NLC) multistate license.
• CPR required per AHA standards (didactic + skills demonstration) within 30 days of hire.
• Graduate nurses must complete the licensure exam within 6 months of hire or 1 year of graduation (whichever comes first).
• Temporary permits are valid for one year from graduation, but UPMC requires GNs to test within 6 months of start date or face termination/demotion.
• ACLS due within 12 months of hire.
• NIH stroke scale (NIH) due within 6 months of hire.
