POSITION SUMMARY

Performs a variety of moderately complex accounting duties that require an understanding of established accounting procedures. Performs assigned accounting functions requiring the application of accounting principles and practice. The Accountant must possess excellent written and verbal communication skills; possess short and long term memory skills; exercise good judgment; have the ability to plan, train, interpret, and explain; be able to work as part of a team and foster a spirit of cooperation between staff, parents, and the program; be available and able to work an extended and irregular work schedule; be accurate; have systematic habits; have a genuine interest and concern for young children; and possess analytical and interpersonal skills. 

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

• Maintains assigned accounting and journal functions in accounts payable.
• Performs advanced and/or specialized accounting activities.
• Reconcile accounts, post to and balance general ledger.
• Performs accounting activities, analyzes and records financial data under the supervision of the Director of Finance.
• Maintains assigned accounting and journal functions within the Business Operations department.
• Assist with recording inventory to general ledger.
• Provide calculations for financial data on employees. May assist with calculations on vendor contracts.
• Acts as a resource person to staff regarding accounting and fiscal policies and guidelines.
• Assembles, sorts, matches, calculates, checks, codes and files specialized financial and statistical data as per assigned responsibilities.
• Processes various types of reports, tabulated lists, calculations, postings and forms or records; prepare journal entries. 
• May deposit currency and checks from reimbursement to the agency (i.e., Fundraisers). Complete month-end processing of financial data.
• Prepare monthly financial information and related reports. 
• Assists in a variety of financial functions/assignments including reconciliation, report preparation, review expenditures, preparation of financial statements and related reports.
• Assists in the coordination of center budgets, in review of center ledgers, and in review and verification of managers’ monthly financial reports.
• Assists management in audits; assists in the resolution of audit exceptions.
• May direct other staff in the support functions of finance and accounting within the assigned approval parameters.
• Review expenditures according to the categories defined in the chart of accounts.
• Prepares data to assist in the development of the budget and financial statements.
• Prepares detailed financial, cost and accounting data for reports developed by the Director of Finance.
• Assist with the reconciliation of inventory for capital equipment and small equipment.
• Reconcile payroll manual reports and/or data to actual paychecks. 
• Prepare cash requirement report for payables and payroll.
• Reconciliation of quarterly payroll reports to the G/L and ADP payroll registers.
• Compiles and prepares reports from compensation and benefits records and statistics.
• Perform CACFP monitoring at the schools. Record monthly CACFP reimbursement amounts.
• Records expenditures according to the categories defined in the chart of accounts.
• Calculates and verifies the accuracy of the CACFP packets. 
• Demonstrate on-going personal and professional growth and development to meet program and regulatory requirements.

• Must maintain confidentiality at all times. 
• Attend and participate in staff meetings and training as scheduled.

QUALIFICATIONS:

Minimum Qualifications:

• Bachelor’s Degree or higher from an accredited university or college in Accounting or Business Administration or equivalent education or work experience.
• Two (2) or more years in accounting or bookkeeping, non-profit preferred. 
• Computer literate and basic understanding of generally accepted accounting principles.

• Physically capable of lifting up to 40 pounds as needed throughout the day.
• Ability to drive a vehicle long and short distances.
• Prolonged periods of sitting at a desk and working on a computer.
• Specific vision abilities require close vision, such as extended computer-screen viewing.

The work environment is that which is typical of an office setting and the noise level is usually quiet.

Must possess a valid Texas driver’s license and have access to a vehicle which is insured as required by the Texas Financial Responsibility Law.
