Job Title: Oncology Nurse Job Description
This role provides comprehensive clinical and administrative support in a fast-paced oncology clinic, working closely with providers to deliver high-quality chemotherapy, immunotherapy, and infusion care. You will manage patient assessments, coordinate care plans, perform phlebotomy and lab-related tasks, and ensure accurate documentation while contributing to a supportive, team-oriented culture.
Responsibilities

• Record patient vital signs, including height, weight, allergies, and medication changes in the electronic medical record or electronic health record systems.
• Gather detailed patient histories to support accurate diagnosis and treatment planning.
• Interpret laboratory results and communicate findings to providers and the care team.
• Obtain blood specimens and perform phlebotomy in accordance with clinical standards and safety protocols.
• Support providers in creating individualized care plans, coordinating implementation, and evaluating patient progress.
• Maintain complete, timely, and accurate documentation for all assigned patient care activities.
• Answer phone calls related to referrals and ensure appropriate follow-up and coordination.
• Schedule patient tests, procedures, and hospital admissions as ordered by providers.
• Schedule follow-up appointments to review test results and ensure continuity of care.
• Perform general administrative duties such as typing, filing, faxing, and reception to support clinic operations.
• Provide excellent customer service to patients and families, ensuring a compassionate and professional experience.
• Work efficiently in a fast-paced oncology environment while remaining self-sufficient and organized.
• Collaborate with the multidisciplinary team to support infusion, chemotherapy, and immunotherapy services.
• Apply medical terminology accurately in clinical documentation and communication.
• Use critical thinking skills to identify patient needs, potential issues, and appropriate interventions.
• Demonstrate attention to detail in all clinical and administrative tasks to support patient safety and quality care.

Essential Skills

• Registered Nurse with Texas State Board of Nursing License.
• Minimum of 3+ years of experience as a Nurse in a clinical setting.
• At least 2+ years of oncology nursing experience, including exposure to chemotherapy, immunotherapy, or infusion services.
• Proficiency in obtaining blood specimens and performing phlebotomy.
• Experience working in a fast-paced health care environment.
• Ability to gather patient histories and accurately record vital signs, allergies, and medication changes.
• Strong critical thinking skills to support complex oncology care and clinical decision-making.
• Competence in interpreting laboratory results and communicating findings to the care team.
• Solid administrative skills, including typing, filing, faxing, and reception duties.
• Working knowledge of medical terminology relevant to oncology and general health care.
• Experience using electronic medical record (EMR) and electronic health record (EHR) systems.
• Demonstrated customer service skills and ability to interact professionally with patients and families.
• High level of attention to detail in both clinical and administrative tasks.
• Positive attitude and ability to work effectively as a team player.

Work Environment
This position is based in a fast-paced oncology clinic that provides chemotherapy, immunotherapy, and infusion services. You will work closely with a multidisciplinary team in a culture that emphasizes collaboration, team building, and open communication. The clinic regularly engages in team-building exercises, celebrates holidays together, and promotes an open-door policy to support a positive and inclusive atmosphere. Standard work hours are Monday through Friday, 8:30 AM to 5:00 PM or until the last patient is seen, with no weekend shifts. The environment involves regular use of electronic medical record and electronic health record systems, as well as typical clinical and administrative equipment such as computers, phones, fax machines, and medical devices for vital signs and phlebotomy. This is a Contract to Hire position based out of Houston, TX.
Pay and Benefits
The pay range for this position is $40.00 - $47.00/hr.
Individual compensation offered for this position within this range will depend on many factors, including qualifications, skills, relevant experience, job knowledge, geographic location, internal equity, and other pertinent job-related factors.
