YMCA LifeguardMaintains safe swimming conditions in the pool, deck, and surrounding areas. We strive to be the preferred partner collaborating with others, identifying, and meeting our community needs.Essential Functions:Maintains constant surveillance of the pool area.Knows/reviews all emergency procedures and responds to emergency situations immediately in accordance with YMCA policies and procedures. Completes incident reports as required.Knows, understands, and consistently applies safety rules, policies and guidelines for the pool and aquatic area.Maintains accurate records as required by the YMCA and/or the state Health Department code.Performs equipment checks and ensures appropriate equipment is available as needed.Checks the pool for hazardous conditions and takes corrective action as needed.Performs pool chemical testing, as required, and communicates any issue to supervisor immediately.Performs maintenance and cleaning duties as assigned.Attends monthly in-service training and YMCA mandatory staff meetings and training.Works collectively with the director to ensure the needs of the department are met.Adheres to all YMCA of Montclair policies, procedures, rules, regulations and best practices, including emergency and safety procedures, and supports the associations' philanthropy efforts.The position is identified as safety sensitive and subjected to required, random drug testing as scheduled.Cooperate and interact with all members, staff, program participants, and volunteers in a professional, courteous, and friendly manner.Demonstrate and model the YMCA's four core values of Caring, Honesty, Respect, and Responsibility.Report suspicious or inappropriate behaviors and policy violations and follow mandated abuse reporting procedures.Perform other job-related duties as may be assigned periodically by the supervisor.Adhere to policies related to boundaries with members, volunteers, staff, and participants.Attend required Abuse Risk Management training and adhere to procedures related to managing high-risk activities and supervising members and participants.Report suspicious or inappropriate behaviors and policy violations and follow mandated abuse reporting procedures.Ability to pass lifeguard skills assessment and water test.Must be able to remain alert.Must be able to sit or stand for extended periods.Adequate ability to hear noises and distinguish distress signals.Ability to continuously scan all areas of the pool with clear vision.Ability to perform strenuous physical tasks necessary for a water rescue.Ability to communicate verbally, including projecting voice across distance in normal and loud situations.Ability to work inside and outside (environments include humidity, heat, cold, wet, and inclement weather conditions)Must be able to lift and pull 50 pounds.Leadership Competencies:Emotional MaturityCommunicationCritical Thinking and Decision MakingQualifications:Minimum age of 16.Certifications: CPR for the Professional Rescuer/BLS, AED, Basic First Aid certification.Current YMCA Lifeguarding or Red Cross LifeguardingOxygen Administration certificationMust have a CPR/AED and First Aid Certification OR get certified within 90 days of employment.Ability to maintain certification-level of physical and mental readiness.Must demonstrate lifeguard skills in accordance with YMCA standards.Complete Bloodborne pathogens course annually.Maintain all required certifications (active)Company Benefits:YMCA Membership: Enjoy access to our YMCA facilities at no cost.25% Discount on various YMCA ProgramsEmployee Referral Bonus: Earn rewards for referring qualified candidates.Employee Discounts: Access exclusive discounts on various products and services.Paid Time Off (PTO): Eligibility after 90 days of employment.Hourly Pay Rate: $16.13 to $17.50Work Schedule:Weekday Evenings: Monday to FridayWeekends: Saturday and Sunday
