Job Description Communication is a vital part of the military’s ability to run successful missions. It’s the role of the Satellite Communication Systems Operator‑Maintainers to keep lines of communication open by installing, operating, and maintaining strategic and tactical multi‑channel satellite communications. Responsibilities Transmitting, receiving, and logging messages according to military procedures Encoding and decoding classified messages Operating telephone switchboards Installing, maintaining, and operating communications equipment Monitoring and responding to emergency calls Providing guidance on technical issues to other soldiers Identifying and reporting electronic jamming and deception Applying appropriate electronic counter‑measures Conducting stressed and unstressed network operations Maintaining satellite communications equipment and associated devices Preparing system‑ and equipment‑related forms and reports Training & Development Satellite Communication Systems Operator‑Maintainers receive 10 weeks of Basic Training followed by 18 weeks of Advanced Individual Training (AIT). Training is conducted in classroom and field settings under simulated combat conditions, giving soldiers the opportunity to learn skills while earning a regular paycheck.
