Assistant Director of Exceptional Children

Position Summary

The Dover Area School District is seeking a collaborative and student-focused Assistant Director of Exceptional Children for the 2026–2027 school year.

This position supports the leadership and administration of special education programs across the district, ensuring high-quality services for students with disabilities while maintaining compliance with state and federal regulations. The Assistant Director works closely with building administrators, staff, and families to promote inclusive practices, effective instruction, and positive student outcomes.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

Support the oversight and implementation of special education programs and services across the district
Ensure compliance with IDEA, state regulations, and district policies
Assist with the supervision and evaluation of special education staff
Collaborate with building administrators to support student programming and problem-solving
Provide guidance and support for IEP development, implementation, and monitoring
Assist in managing due process, mediation, and compliance-related matters
Support data collection, analysis, and reporting related to special education services
Facilitate professional development for staff related to special education practices
Collaborate with families and community agencies to support student needs
Assist with budgeting, staffing, and resource allocation for special education programs

Qualifications

Valid PA Special Education Certification required
PA Principal or Supervisor of Special Education certification
Minimum of five (5) years of experience in special education
Demonstrated knowledge of IDEA, special education compliance, and best practices
Strong leadership, organizational, and problem-solving skills
Ability to build relationships and collaborate effectively with staff and families
Experience with staff supervision and program development preferred

Certifications and Requirements

Valid clearances: PA Child Abuse, PA Criminal History, and FBI Fingerprinting
PA certification as required for the position
