Position Summary
The Chief Financial Officer (CFO) serves as a strategic member of the executive leadership team and is responsible for the overall financial health, administrative infrastructure, and operational stewardship of the organization. The CFO provides leadership for finance, accounting, budgeting, forecasting, risk management, compliance, and resource allocation while ensuring organizational sustainability and mission impact. This role also provides oversight of the Operations Team, ensuring that financial, operational, and facility resources are aligned with organizational priorities.
Key Responsibilities
Enterprise Strategy & Executive Leadership
- Serve as a strategic advisor and thought partner to the CEO.
- Participate in enterprise strategic planning and organizational decision-making.
- Develop long-range financial and operational strategies to support growth.
- Provide executive leadership in organizational change management and scaling initiatives.
- Partner with executive leaders to ensure organizational priorities are appropriately resourced.
Financial Leadership & Stewardship
- Lead all accounting, financial planning, budgeting, forecasting, and reporting activities.
- Develop multi-year financial projections and sustainability models.
- Oversee cash flow management, reserves, investments, and liquidity strategies.
- Ensure sound fiscal management and stewardship of organizational assets.
- Develop financial dashboards and performance indicators.
Governance, Compliance & Risk Management
- Ensure compliance with GAAP, federal and state regulations, grant requirements, and IRS regulations.
- Lead annual audits and tax filings.
- Establish enterprise risk management practices.
- Present financial information to the Board of Directors.
Operational Leadership
- Provide executive oversight of operational systems and administrative infrastructure.
- Lead the Director of Operations in implementing efficient and scalable business processes.
- Oversee vendor management, contracts, and procurement strategies.
- Identify opportunities for innovation and continuous improvement.
Facilities & Building Experience Leadership
- Provide executive oversight of the organization’s physical assets and facilities.
- Partner with the Director of Facilities & Building Experience to create a welcoming and mission-aligned environment.
- Oversee capital planning and facility improvement initiatives.
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in Finance, Accounting, Business Administration, or a related field required.
- MBA or other relevant master’s degree strongly preferred.
- CPA, CMA, or other relevant professional certification is a plus.
- Minimum of 10 years of progressively responsible financial leadership experience, including responsibility for organizational financial strategy, budgeting, forecasting, and financial operations.
- Minimum of 5 years of senior leadership experience leading teams, developing talent, and managing organizational resources.
- Demonstrated experience overseeing budgeting, forecasting, financial reporting, internal controls, audits, compliance, and risk management.
- Experience partnering with executive leadership to support strategic planning, organizational growth, and data-informed decision-making.
- Nonprofit financial management experience preferred.
- Experience working with Boards of Directors, Finance Committees, and executive leadership teams preferred.
- Exceptional analytical, communication, and relationship-building skills with the ability to translate complex financial information into actionable business insights.
