We provide reasonable accommodations to individuals with disabilities and uphold policies that create an inclusive and collaborative work environment.Brief Job Overview The Senior Manager, Global Trade Compliance is a hands-on managerial role responsible for the program management of USP’s global trade compliance program, with primary focus on applicable U.S. trade regulations, tariffs and sanctions requirements, and USP global trade compliance standards. The Senior Manager will work across all geographies, including serving as a functional manager to the India Trade Compliance team, to build and ensure adherence to a consistent global trade compliance framework for USP as the organization continues to evolve. The incumbent will proactively address immediate Trade-related compliance needs, monitor sanctions-related developments and exposure, tariffs, and build longer-term plans to address emerging regulatory changes. This individual will take a strategic view to resolve complex import, export, tariff and sanctions compliance issues, including partnering with the Legal team and other business stakeholders to identify practical mitigation strategies for associated trade compliance risk, in a manner that fully complies with all governmental and organization policies, while aligning with business priorities where practical.How will YOU create impact here at USP?As part of our mission to advance scientific rigor and public health standards, you will play a vital role in increasing global access to high-quality medicines through public standards and related programs. This includes training in equitable management practices and tools to promote engaged, collaborative, and results-driven work environments.The Senior Manager, Global Trade Compliance, has the following responsibilities:Lead Global Trade Compliance Strategy & ExecutionLead the development, implementation, and continuous improvement of USP’s Global Trade Compliance program in alignment with organizational goals, regulatory requirements, and business needs. Translate program priorities into actionable workplans and measurable team activities.Support Global Alignment, Operational Consistency & Performance AccountabilityCoordinate priorities, processes, and execution across geographically dispersed team members (U.S. & India) to promote consistent trade compliance practices. Support governance routines, performance tracking, and issue escalation; assess team capacity, workload, and processes to align resources to priority risks and business needs, improve efficiency, reduce duplication, and support sustainable team effectiveness.Manage Global Trade Compliance Team ExecutionProvide direct and functional leadership to Global Trade Compliance team members in the U.S. and India to align workplans and execution with USP’s global trade compliance standards. Assess team capacity, workload, and operating processes to ensure resources are aligned to the highest-priority compliance risks and business needs. Identify opportunities to improve efficiency, reduce duplication, and strengthen execution while supporting sustainable workloads and team effectiveness.Support Team Development & PerformanceSet clear goals and performance expectations for direct reports, provide coaching and constructive documented feedback, and support professional development to strengthen team capability, consistency, and execution.Promote an Inclusive & Engaged Team CultureModel inclusive leadership behaviors aligned with USP’s Equity = Excellence philosophy. Create a psychologically safe environment where diverse perspectives are valued, engagement is high, and team members are empowered to contribute and grow.Partner Across the OrganizationWork collaboratively with cross-functional stakeholders to provide practical trade compliance guidance, support risk identification, and integrate compliance requirements into day-to-day business processes.Align Trade Compliance Risk Tolerance with Organizational Risk ProfileMaintain practical trade compliance risk tolerance levels aligned with USP’s overall organizational risk profile, escalating higher-risk matters and recommending mitigation strategies that balance regulatory requirements, business needs, and mission impact.Ensure Regulatory Compliance & Risk MitigationMonitor and ensure compliance with applicable U.S. import/export laws, tariffs, sanctions requirements, and USP global trade compliance standards. Identify, assess, and help mitigate trade-related risks, in coordination with Legal, business stakeholders, and India-based resources as appropriate. Proactively recommend solutions to emerging issues.Maintain Policies, Procedures & Program ImprovementsDevelop, maintain, and update trade compliance procedures, guidance, and best practices. Implement updates based on stakeholder feedback, monitoring results, and regulatory changes.Oversee Classification, Licensing & Screening ProgramsMaintain oversight of classification processes (HTS, Schedule B, ECCN), jurisdiction and license determinations, and global classification databases. Manage restricted party screening programs, resolve escalations and ensure appropriate training and access controls.Manage External Partners & Operational ExecutionCoordinate with customs brokers, freight forwarders, and internal stakeholders to support compliant and efficient import/export execution. Monitor service quality, address operational issues, and manage key processes such as AES filings, country-of-origin determinations, valuation, free trade agreements, and recordkeeping.Support Business Growth & ExpansionPartner with business stakeholders to identify and address trade compliance requirements related to new product launches, global expansion, and evolving business activities. Support practical processes, guidance, and controls to enable compliant and efficient execution.Develop & Deliver Training ProgramsDesign and implement role-based training programs to build organizational awareness and capability in import/export compliance, ensuring stakeholders understand responsibilities and requirements.Who is USP Looking For?The successful candidate will have a demonstrated understanding of our mission, commitment to excellence through inclusive and equitable behaviors and practices, ability to quickly build credibility with stakeholders, along with the following competencies and experience:Bachelor’s degree in business administration, Economics, or relevant field; or equivalent experience.Minimum of 8 years relevant experience with U.S. import and export regulations and global trade.Minimum of 2 years people managerial experience.Experience collaborating with a global team. Experience in a functional management structure is preferred.Must have extensive knowledge of U.S. export laws and regulations, tariffs, U.S. denied parties and sanctioned country laws and regulations, including OFAC and other country trade regulations.Must have the ability to successfully lead and implement compliance initiatives with a positive and collaborative style.Must have the ability to plan and manage multiple tasks while working with individuals across the organization at all levels.Licensed Customs Broker and/or Trade related certifications required.Must possess strong attention to detail, critical thinking, and excellent problem-solving skills.Ability to work in a fast-paced environment with time-sensitive submissions and strict reporting deadlines.Strong and effective verbal, written, and interpersonal communication skills.Additional Desired PreferencesExperience in the pharmaceutical, chemical, and biologics industry areaAbility to understand potential obstacles to projects, appreciate stakeholder concerns and positively influence successful completion through alignment.Demonstrated ability to manage multiple and complex assignments while paying attention to detail.Supervisory ResponsibilitiesYes, two (2) Trade Compliance Specialists.BenefitsUSP provides the benefits to protect yourself and your family today and tomorrow.
