Position Type: Student Support Services/ Guidance Counselor Date Posted: 7/7/2026 Location: Harper Woods High School Closing Date: 09/06/2026 Internal/External Job Posting Position: High School Guidance Counselor Reports to: High School Principal Qualifications Must be a Licensed Professional Counselor Master's Degree in Counseling Education Extensive experience working with youth, families and community organizations preferred Experience in the development and facilitation of professional development Experience in working in a multi-cultural environment dealing with diversity issues Experience with female relational aggression issues Experience with master scheduling; creating/building student schedules Performance Responsibilities Conduct developmental guidance lessons in the classroom and in large groups. Facilitate the integration of the guidance curriculum into the educational curricula. Select topics and resources consistent with school identified objectives. Conduct orientation activities for students new to the school. Provide grade level—middle school through postsecondary—transitional activities. Assist students with developing educational plans. Provide school-to-career guidance activities using available resources. Provide scholarship information and support guidance in applications. Administer standardized tests. Interpret standardized test results. Assist the administration with the school testing program. Conduct structured, goal-oriented counseling sessions in response to identified needs of individuals and groups of students. Assist in the identification of "at‑risk" students. Assist in the administration of the Academic Crisis Team. Consult with and serve as a resource for teachers, staff, and parents regarding the developmental needs of students. Conduct in-service programs for faculty and staff. Maintain records to document interactions, interventions, and decisions. Refer students and their parents to community agencies, programs, or specialists as appropriate. Participate in the evaluation and revision of the school guidance program.
